Multi-Radar Tracking - Sep Standards

Tried this thread in the Tech Log section without any luck. Any takers?

Can anybody point me in the right direction for the technical requirements relating to determining the minimum separation standard when using Multi Radar Tracking ATC systems? Seems nobody in this part of the world has the technical expertise to reduce our current 4NM standard to 3NM. (Which begs the question - how did they come up with 4NM?)
Thanks in advance.

Not my area of expertise but maybe Annex 10? Or I think there my be an ICAO manual on determining separation standards.

NATS in UK uses 5NM for MRT and 3NM for SRP but work will be undertaken soon to give 3NM separation on MRT.

Just an idea, but you could use 3NM using Sha Chau next to CLK,within 40nm of the radar head. Then 5NM with the others for outside 40nm.You wouldn't need MRT sep standards.Or what about the very expensive Precision Approach Radar which is sitting in the corner hatching eggs.:E
You asked a why??(10 bucks) question about 4NM.Looks like it was a toss up between 5 and 3.Using 3NM down final would get the movement rate up slightly.;)

Thanks very much Lon More. Spot on. My attention span normally dwindles after about page 6 on Google.

I must learn to use Google properly.

I'm still waiting for you to come back and help me swizzle the LLZ aerial around 47 degrees and lift the checkerboard onto the top of Cathay City. Until that happens, forget 3 miles on final. :ok:

The ICAO "root" is there :
Manual on Airspace Planning Methodology for the Determination of Separation Minima (DOC9689)
e.copy on PM if interested

Are they still in mourning after nearly 10 years. This just shows that the CAD don't have any idea. The 4NM sounds like we can't have 5NM but we are really scared to do 3NM because we might not be capable of it.It is crazy that there is CLK which cannot operate minmum vortex down final, because they are so conservative.
How much fuel is this costing the airlines? If I were in Cathy I'd be jumping up and down big time.Surely in this age of climate change, global warming, pollution etc, they would be working in a way the rest of the world has for decades to minimise delays.
Sorry Bekol I know that you are singing from the same hymn sheet on this.If someone in CAD would like to directly answer the question, why can't they use 3nm sep when they have the choice of 4 radars. It's not difficult.:ugh:
