UK D-Atis & DCL
Anyone know the proposed expansion plans and timescale of D-ATIS and DCL within the UK?
I know STN/LGW/LHR have the D-ATIS and DCL at STN, with LGW to be on-line again soon. How about other places though? 30W |
man has the D-ATIS. no clue about the rest

DCL at LHR on 21st April.

Perhaps I am just being a bit thick :p
I know what D-ATIS is, but whats this "DCL"? DF |
De fruiter beat me to it; what the h is DCL?
|
Can't for the life of me remember what it stands for (lost too many brain cells, Google offered Double Choco Latte :) ) but it is the system to enable direct clearance delivery via Data Link. We have it on our EFPS and hopefully will be using it soon.

DCL = Departure CLearance (via Datalink)

ah! makes sense...thanks ;)

Don't think STN has D-ATIS. Maybe next century......
|
Thanks for the responses. It would be interesting to know NATS' intensions across the UK infrastructure, and in what time frame......
Anyone know a contact point who might be able to answer? Whilst currently trialling ACARS, we have to complete a business case to keep it! A growing availability within the UK would certainly assist if only to a small degree in doing so... Cheers 30W |
I wonder why there so little use of D-ATIS and DCL worldwide, especially at busier ATC environments.
Separate ARR and DEP (D-)ATIS as well. It makes life easier for the flight crew too. Back where I used to work it was implemented 6 or 7 years ago! Here at Abu Dhabi (OMAA), UAE the ATIS is still being pre-recorded by an ATCO!!! |
Yep, there would be advantages to a separate ATIS for arrivals and deps, and you could get round the problem of different letters by updating both simultaneously, whichever had changed.
With D-ATIS it would be great to be able to send a flash message to pilots with high priority stuff, such as LVPs cancelled (i.e. ILS no longer CAT3 protected); runway wet etc. But I guess it's simpler to do that kind of thing over the r/t. 99% of the time, the only thing I want to know pilots have copied is the QNH. But when they're only being held down at altitudes for maybe a couple of miles on the SID before climbing to a flight level, why is that still so important? Is it a case of custom and practice? |
Aberdeen also has D-ATIS facility in place. Would like to hear more about your D-ATIS experience.

Does anybody know where I can find an overview of which airports (Europe) have D-ATIS / DCL. Trying to find a list but don't seem to be able to, furthmore, whats publised in the Jepps isn't always correct either.

Try the SITA website, I believe they have a document on there for download which has an up to date listing.
