When Will You Hear

This is only a guess, but my theory as to why some people get confirmation very quickly and some take a while is wholly down to how you scored. If you score very well on the tests your in and there is no point delaying letting you know. If you score badly your out, so again, no point dragging out your anxiety. If you score to an acceptable level, they will hold off letting you know because other higher scorers may come through in later tests that could potentially knock you out. So no news is good news as far as I am concerned. You can't do better than your best in any instance, so if you do get knocked back at least you can take comfort from the fact that in 3/5years from now when your on a plane somewhere over the UK, you know the person controlling hasn't blagged their way in and that you are in well trained hands.

So in summary. lets say there are 500 (pure guess) places at the next stages, if you haven't heard, I'd say you're in one of those places, with the caveat that you could drop off if more high scores come along.

@ The I've sort of come to the same conclusion myself but also fear that I may be deluding myself :) The speculation is driving me nuts :}

Roo2002 2nd October 2012 18:39

If it is as THE has suggested then could everybody about to take the tests NOT try their very best please.
Thank you :ok:

Seriously though I'm itching to find out, I'd love to be an ATCO.
Good luck to everybody that's still waiting or about to take the tests.

maths on stage 1

Well.... I have go trough the material given on the invitation mail, and I have not found anything relative to mathematic problems whatsoever...

People here talk about some numerical questions... Dis I miss something? Cheers and good luch all

chrisbeckett2004 2nd October 2012 19:29

The maths questions are general knowledge.. They could give you a million examples if they really wanted.. Just brush up on mental arithmetic etc!

JackRalston 2nd October 2012 20:42

Roo2002 and JoDuck, good luck and let us know when you get your email. It's starting to kill me a bit now with the wait. I must admit, what The said makes sense. Seems sensible to let those who have definitely passed and certainly not passed be informed of their results as soon as possible.

ramon76 2nd October 2012 20:45

THANKS! It , should be fine then , cheers!

malakajin 2nd October 2012 20:46

what dates are available for stage 2 at the moment?

Fsg 3rd October 2012 03:57

Relevant read

Please guys I will like to ask a yes or no answer. Is the part that talked about different aircraft and their speed relevant to read? I have my stage 1 test tomorrow. Thanks for your response in advance.

The,

........ If you score to an acceptable level, they will hold off letting you know because other higher scorers may come through in later tests that could potentially knock you out. ........

Not true I'm afraid.

There is no relative scoring throughout the process, it is all absolute scoring, i.e. against a fixed standard. If everyone who applies makes the standard, then everyone gets in (albeit with a very long wait time!).

Sarah_Lou 3rd October 2012 07:45

As of this morning - stage 2 is available 11th, 16th, 17th and 23rd of this month.
Spaces are being used up though - when I made my choice the 5th was still available!

malakajin 3rd October 2012 08:51

thanks sarah

owensamuel 3rd October 2012 09:09

At stage 1 when you do the diagramming tests are you given the key at the start and then you have to memorise the key for all the questions or is the key available throughout the questions?

Thanks,

Owen (who is currently sitting in his hotel room continuously reading the provided document nervously anticipating what is to come later today)

Crazy Voyager 3rd October 2012 09:22

When I did them the key was available throughout, but I don't belive we were allowed to study it before the test started (even thuogh I'm not sure, it's been a while).

Sarah_Lou 3rd October 2012 09:22

Owen - the key is available throughout :) it's more complicated than the practise ones, so if it wasn't they would be impossible!!

owensamuel 3rd October 2012 09:36

Sarah Lou and Crazy Voyager -

Thank you both for your replies. Glad the key is available throughout just came over with a ton of worry if it was like 10+ keys I had to memorise for 50 questions ha.

MountainSide 3rd October 2012 10:30

see what you mean...

So, I see what you say, if you pass a fixed requirement you will get in, even in later courses.
This makes me wonder what is the hold-up then, and if I should contact HR.
I can tell you, this puzzles me more than the cubes or diagramming... ;)

Sarah_Lou 3rd October 2012 11:11

Easy for me to say, as I didn't wait very long, but I would think that contacting them before the 15 day period is over just likely to irritate them... they are getting through them...

Good luck to all waiting to hear :)

MountainSide 3rd October 2012 11:51

well... :)

I see what you mean Sarah... I kind of agree.
I also like to think that they would contact anyone should a problem/information request arise during the process.
But I sure wish what the hold up is... ;) - in part because I am located in Portugal, so, if getting through, would appreciate some days to prepare my trip for stage 2.

Well, here is to hoping and that they get back to us all still waiting fairly quickly with good news :).

dez999 3rd October 2012 13:19

Stage 2??

I kind of agree with Sarah as it clearly states 15 working days wherever you look. However we were specifically told on 26th we'd find out within 'a couple of days'. This is what's leading to the frustration about not knowing. Especially as lots of people who have sat stage 1 since then already have a reply.

Gonzo..any thoughts?
