It is basically basic checking.

You have to match a sequence of letters and numbers with on that is in a column mixed with another 10 or so.

There are five sections, each made up for five questions. The test is timed, with each section the time you have to match the sequence gets less.

You get to practice it as much as you like before taking the actual test aswell.... Good luck.

At bottom of page 10 it says "The benefits of Mode S are that the controller should see a reduction in their RT workload..."

What does RT stand for?

Have got an idea of what it might be (Radio Traffic or Radio Transmission) but want to be sure!

For people arranging visits, how quick was your contact at Swanwick to get back to you? Looks like I'll be spending a whole day at one of my local airport next week, hoping for CAVOK since it has a ton of VFR traffic when the weather allow which would be great to see.

Top of page 14 it mentions "a position on the MCT 157 degree radial"..

What does MCT stand for? In relation to the Manchester VOR and "a position called ROGBI"..

MCT doesn't stand for Manchester in this case?

Otherwise I cannot think what it would be.

MCT is the Manchester VOR (I found pictures of it here UK Navaids Gallery - Manchester MCT VOR/DME :p).

ROGBI sounds like the name of a navigational point to me.

European Class 3 Medical - Asthma
 

Just seeking some up to date information from people who have taken/passed the new medical.

I have mild asthma which requires twice daily use of a preventer and I rarely suffer from symptoms of asthma in normal day to say life, hence I rarely have to use the reliever inhaler.

The NATS website states: "A past history of asthma may be acceptable but significant symptoms at time of application are likely to be disqualifying."

The CAA website states (with regard to the European Class 3): "Assessment of asthma is on an individual basis."

Having not been asked to mention this in my initial application to NATS, I'm now wondering how much of a problem this may be. My understanding is that the class of medical examination has changed recently for NATS (was just UK Class 1 ATCO). Does this mean the European medical is more thorough and difficult to pass?

It's not clear from the CAA website how much a medical examination would cost (i.e. if I was to book it independently before going through the 3 NATS Selection Stages). Does anyone have any ideas? I can't imagine how gutted I would be if I passed Stage 3 only to fail the medical!

Mode S doesn't seem to have reduced RTF loading..............yet.

Tcr - all I can say is that I had I mild history of asthma and Im a quite heavy smoker (I'm quitting soon) and I passed the medical.

got my feedback from my Stage 3 interview yesterday afternoon :ok:

It was very helpful, mostly because it was very specific and detailed - I know exactly where I went wrong (and reassuringly, it was where I suspected my answers had been a bit poor), and what aspects of the competencies they were hoping to see more of. As it was very specific feedback, it won't help anyone on here to post it up, and I probably shouldn't anyway, so I'll just repeat my earlier advice - focus on the competencies that NATS tell you they will be looking for, and times when you demonstrated them. That's all I needed to do and if I'd spent more time on just that I am confident I would now be scheduled for the February 2012 course :ugh:

It was equally frustrating/comforting to hear that I was very close to getting through Stage 3 - I was urged to apply again (not that they needed to prompt me!) and I'm confident I'll get through next time round.

On that note - see you all in October ;)

Hi, could anyone tell me exactly what is included in the booklet they give you to learn. Would be good to know what you are expected to know before the interviews, even if I won't be applying for a few months, so thanks in advance.
