AT 25MPH, how far do you travel in 2 hours and 24 mins??

Urghhh im actually good at maths... I just cant find an easy way to do SDT in my head quickly.

Apparently If i know my 6 times table, then its easy in your head. Can someone give some examples... not with easy numbers, but with difficult ones that are not easily split...ie at What speed covers 23 miles in 2 hours 47 mins...

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks

BarryK 11th October 2010 14:44

AnnaColes - What time? I'm on my second go at things, booked in for Thursday at 1345, going to drive down and drive home again.

Seconds out, Round Two!

separation 11th October 2010 16:48

crash - this is how i do it. although there are different ways.

@ 25mph how far do you travel in 2hr 24 min.

2hrs is 50 miles

A 5th of an hour is 12mins so in 12 mins @ 25mph you go 5 miles as a 5th of 25 is 5.

So 12 mins x 2 is 24 mins making 10miles in 24 mins.

All added is 60 miles in 2hrs 24mins :ok:

@ Sammy H and Crazy Voyager

so, how did you stage 1s go guys???? :)

Crazy Voyager 11th October 2010 20:37

1 month to erly mate ;)
Even though I hadn't mind if it was today so I would know the result sooner :p

sambatc 11th October 2010 20:46

:) woops.....

i wish mine would come sooner too!!

AnnaColes 12th October 2010 09:47

BarryK - Mines at 10.45, so will all be over by the time you're in! I'm so nervous! Am I right in thinking that for the S/D/T questions you do get scrap paper?

Thank you x

Crazy Voyager 12th October 2010 10:35

Indeed, when I booked the time I thought it would be nice to have some time to prepare, but now I just want it over with!

Might feel diffrent when I'm on that train to Swanwick though, I'm already feeling a bit nervous :uhoh:

crash323 12th October 2010 11:00

Hey

For anyone who has completed stage 1 - are the SDT calcs pretty standard? ie - if you can to the ones on the RAF website, you can do the NATS ones?

Thanks

Chris

I have the Stage 1 test on the 18th of this month at Fareham. Anyone else on that day? Any tips please? I was not aware there will be calculations involved though. The information I received did not mention this.

sambatc 12th October 2010 11:09

are you sure it wasn't mentioned in the emails NATS sent you inviting you to book the assessment, and then to confirm it? It was mentioned in mine....

autumnleaves10 12th October 2010 11:18

I received a link to the following:

The event will consist of selection tests & ATC paper.

The questions for the ATC paper are drawn from this link:
Test document material

Practice examples of the tests can be found at:-
NATS Practice Leaflet
Practice Tests on SHL Website

AnnaColes 12th October 2010 14:11

Could anyone give an example on the sort of 'compass direction' questions they are likely to ask? I thought it was mainly S/D/T caluclations!

Thanks

BarryK 12th October 2010 18:37

Anna,

So far as I remember you do. It's not overly hard, just there to sort the wheat from the chaff. If I'd known someone from here would be on an earlier one, I'd have booked it! Damn!

Sofia ATC 12th October 2010 19:52

Hi guys!!!
Best of luck for the ones are taking stage 1 soon. I have booked mine for December, I an pretty busy at work and i want to be prepared.
Any idea where could i find SDT exercices?
Thanks,

AnnaColes 13th October 2010 09:37

Barry,
Why don't you try and re-book it for the earlier one? Or have they all been taken? This wait is absolutely killing me, I just want it over with now!

So the standards pretty similar to those questions given on the RAF website?

Thanks

AnnaColes 13th October 2010 09:42

Sofia,

Speed Distance Time | OASC: RAF Officer and Aircrew Selection Centre

is good for practicing. Everytime you refresh the page there are new questions - so pretty good!

Good luck in your prep :)
