Course starting in October
Anyone reading this starting the course in October?
Message me if you are, thanks. |
ramzan Can you please help me in understanding. I applied for my ATC last week. I passed the application process and I am called to the first interview. Iv booked it for 31st march. I was also asked to do this online test. This was a killer test. I did really bad in the calculation test. Did you do the same? What does the next stage invovle? Im pannicing the calculation test was like 123x3-?= the answer. I had to work out the question marks. It was just too crazy, There were no options given,. I had to work it out within 18 seconds. I deffinately failed it, but they wont tell you until I come to the 1st assessment day. Has anyone been through this? has anyone got throught after they have done their online tet after the application process? The online test doesn't count to your score on the stage 1 test, as far as i can remember it is just to give some feedback on how quickly people can answer the questions, I did terrible on the online test, but managed to pass stage 1 and get right through to passing stage 3 last week. Don't worry about it, just practice the material they send you, know the text document inside out, watch your time and you'll be fine, if you think you might be runnin short of time on the multiple choice questions, just guess the last 5 or so, better guessing than leaving them blank! :ok: |
natnat25 i'm there at 09.00am
Can't wait! currently reading the study text over and over again and keeping my fingers crossed! |

##tips For## Stage One Cubes
For anyone who is considering there stage one..
When preparing for my stage one, being able to rotate a 3-D cube in my mind was something the candidate had to show the ability to do..After weeks of looking at model cubes i made and the various nets with as puzzeled look on my face, i finally cracked a small, simple formula of managing to work out how the cube will look.. Everyone knows that the most simple net of a cube is the basic 'cross shape' (A line of 4 cubes vertical and 3 cubes horizonal.) sooo when your faced with a slighlty more challanging net, try and re-assemble the more challanging net to more basic one. Doing this is again, simple. In order to create the more basic net, you will essentially need to turn each cube 90 degrees as if you were rolling it around the net until you get it to its new desired (basic) position. With each 'role' of 90 degrees you will obviously have to turn whatever pattern is on that face of the cube 90 degrees. Although that may sound difficult it really isnt..your best bet is to cut out the shape of a complex cube net, draw patterns on each face and try and see what i mean. Once you have the basic net of a cube..it is SSOOO much easier to mentally rotate it in your head..trust me.. I have just done my stage one successfully with the help of this little formula...When sitting the test, use a scrap piece of paper to draw the new 'basic' net from the more complex net you are provided with...Sure, it will take 30 seconds of your allocated time but 30 seconds is nothing compared to the time you will be looking at each more complex net with a blank look on your face. If anyone wants to follow this up or for me try and break it down more step by step, private message me and ill see what i can so Cheers |
If I remember correctly, scrap paper was only allowed for diagramming at my stage 1 ... :uhoh:
|
yep your right...However theres no harm in drawing a few diagrams on the blank areas on your answer sheet..they allowed me to do that!
Secondly, am i right in thinking theres no longer interviews at stage 2? Its simply just computer tests etc? |
S3 30th April Swanwick
Hi Lowlevelowl,
I've been waiting for Nats to put new dates on for a wile. Infact I ended up e-mailing them to make sure I wasn't going to miss out cos I couldn't make the available dates. Do you know anything about the group board game type thing were going to be doing? What sort prep are you doing for the interview? I've just been reading up on Nats and general ATC info at the moment. Any tips would be appreciated. Good luck for the day Speak to you soon, Joel |
Has anyone else got their stage one test on thursday 18th marchat fareham?
Also is this disc the best thing to use to practice www.skytest.com I have been using it but nobody on here seems to mention it. It did cost me nearly £50 but im hoping it is going to be worth it. They also have a disc for stage 2. Thanks |

I did my stage 3 yesterday (checking my e-mails every second at the moment lol) anyway they did say to us we are not allowed to give out any information about interview questions or the group activity but the prep you say you’re doing already should be fine. :) |
Hi Guys, got my stage 1 on Friday the 12th at Prestwick. Anyone else going?
Just a few quick questions really as most of the questions i've had have been previously covered. 1) In the S/D/T questions, are you given a calculator or are they just basic mental arithmatic questions. I can rattle out the Speed Distance Time | OASC: RAF Officer and Aircrew Selection Centre questions in about 10 seconds dead each now but obviously will put more practice in if i have to do them by hand. 2) Whats the dress code for the stage 1s? anything goes or shall i turn up suited and booted. Cheers. |
Maths is mental arithmatic - no calculators.
You need to be able to do speed/distance/time calcs in your head frequently when on station, so its best to start now. |
Speed Time Distance
Hi
can someone help. On the RAF website, it says distance= speed x time Speed = Distance devide by time and time= distance over speed. Then the test examples, ive been trying to work them out but these formulas giving different answers all the time. Does anybody know what am i doing worng here? |
Those equations are all correct, if you are getting funny answers then it is due to some error in your working rather than the equations themselves. If you want to post (or PM) the examples you are having trouble with and your working then I'm sure we will be able to help you identify the areas where you are going wrong.
Are you accounting for the fact that your units of measurement might be different in the different quantities you are using? For instance - speed is usually measured in terms of miles per hour, but the times you are using may well be in minutes so you will need to convert them to hours (e.g. 10mins = 1/6 hour, 15mins = 1/4 hour, 12mins = 1/5 hour etc.) before putting the figures into the equations. |
I have my 3rd Stage Interview and group exercise on Thursday 25th February at Swanwick.
It's getting close now! Hope it all goes well. |
