Bogie near DXB on 8/12?
Was leaving Dxb on Wed 8th, when all inbounds were put in various holds in various locations, and all outbounds were held on the ground while a "low-level, high speed traffic" was "being intercepted by UAE military". Anyone shed any light on who, in what, and what happened?

Unidentified traffic is subject to scrutiny by the UAE military, and should the need arise, intercepted. Something that may trigger such an action might be failing to respond when challenged. The US military operates extensively in the area, often flying maritime Due Regard, as they consider that over-water, 12nm from land, is 'international airspace'.
As these procedures are developed to cover a wide variety of scenarios, sterilisation of airspace can occur. |
I talked to a Swede that worked Area down in UAE 2-3 years back, and he says that the US Navy is a much bigger threat to comercial aviation then the terrorist b@stards will ever be.
But as long as it's not US comercial aviation, it probably is not much of an argument. (Supposedly fun when the yanks launch carrier based aircraft right info a busy airway, less then 1 mile seperation at same level in IMC is close enough, a least when it happens a lot during one shift.......) |
Do you reckon foreign military traffic operating off the CONUS coast at 13 miles under 'Due Regard' would get a free ride ?? :p
|
Maybe we should call the Russians and get them to operate the Admiral Kutznetzov carrier group 13 miles east of New York? ;)
The Yanks won't mind! :E |
Thanks for the replies

PPRuNe Radar, M609.......Good Call!
Ferris....you should run for parliment with those sorts of explanations. 8 Years of dealing with the US "Due Regard" concept and they have developed into some of the most untidy moments of my Middle East experience!! Only one government on this planet have the ordacity to put out a notam to the world telling them that basically they will do what they want, where they want and when they want with no regard to the general public!!! They give our civil traffic a good tickle up on a regular basis (especially during the Afghan campaign when they set up the tactical entry point right in the middle of some of the worlds busiest civil airways and used non-conformal levels to boot!!!). But its ok, before we had RVSM they would disect the airways at 90 degrees and throw in 500' for mum and the kids, cause that should give everybody the warm and fuzzies!! Gobsmacked! :suspect: |
