Push back

Recently I was requesting push back. I called ground on 121.900 and said: Callsign xxx, stand xxx request clearence to push - reply from ground was: Callsign xxx, you are cleared to push. Seems pretty normal to me, however my colleque afterwards said, that you are not suppose to say so anymore - if he his right - what to say then ??????

- Push Approved - In the UK you are on the Apron where ATC only controls aicraft, not the vehicles that are darting around you, therefore an ATC "clearance" is not appropriate. Other states where ATC tries to control Apron road traffic may be diferent.

It was "push-back approved" when I left Heathrow Tower around 8 years ago so it's been in for some while.

I was under the impression that the only things ATC should clear you to do were to Take Off or Land .. .. .Everything else has a different excutive instruction (approval), such as "Push-Back Approved" or "Cross Rwy 26, report vacated".. .. .Came about after the Tenerife B747 accident I think..... .. .Then again, you get joining "Clearances" don't you, "From / to / via" etc, so maybe I'm wrong?. .. .Rgds BEX

My esteemed colleagues are correct.. .. .IN the new CAP 413 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> it says on page 121 that pilots should request pushback, and apporval is given or denied.. .. .It then says:. .. ."NOTE: APPROVED - NOT CLEAR". .. .(due to the reasons given above)

Hi!. .. .As far as I remember, the word cleared/clearence shall only be used as stated below:. .. .-take off, touch and go, low approach or landing clearance. .-route/ATC clearance. .-clearance to enter/leave controlled airspace. .-clearance for approach
