Come off the runway?
 

Hi everybody!!. . Could anybody tell me if there is any word or expression in english to say that a plane has come off the runway accidentaly. For instance, due to cross wind when a plane is landing a the wind "pushes" the plane outside the runway, or when the runway is wet and a plane skids and finishes outside the runway.. . Thanks in advance.. .Iker

The event is described as a "runway excursion".

It is an UNINTENTIONAL USE OF UNPAVED AREAS which is defined as - An aircraft of 2300 kgs or more all up weight touches down short of the recognised landing area, overruns on landing or otherwise leaves the paved surfaces of the manoeuvring area.

Action to be taken - Inform the Aerodrome Authority.

It's only an Aircraft Accident if the aircraft receives substantial damage or causes serious injury or damage to property.

However, as an ATCO working and in witness to this event, yes, you would, more than likely, alert the RFFS to an Aircraft Accident.

If it weighs less than 2300kg its a microlight.. .We're awful impressed if they can find the field.. .Landing on the runway is an unexpected bonus!. . <img src="rolleyes.gif" border="0"> :) <img src="rolleyes.gif" border="0">

The whole point of having a microlight is that its light. I don't think 2.5 tonnes qualifies as a microlight really, thats more than a fully fuelled & loaded P28R!!!!!. .Our phraseology is generally "Oh Bu!*er" and look in the opposite direction.. .And no, I dont work at oxford before you ask the obvious!!!!!
