Grades for ATC

Hi,
I have 5 A-C grades but i need to get my maths up atleast one grade. I am currently retaking this.
As i am in full time employment i was going to take a full time home course for 2 A-Levels (my work involves sitting down doing nothing really so i get the time to do the courses). On the NATS site i saw that the entry requirement is to have either study up to examination level or be in your last year of study. As i will be getting a 1 year home course for these A-Levels does that mean i will be considered for recruitment into ATC, because i am in the last year of study?

Also what is the requirements to be an air traffic control assistant? is this a good way to get into ATC?

Thanks for any answers

Regards

Darren

Unofficial observation from the control tower:

I believe you are right in saying that you only need to have studied towards A levels or equivealent to be considered accademic enough. You probably do need to have some maths skills though and at least a C at GCSE.

ATC is not an accademic career, but you do need to pass aptitude tests to get in in the first place. Some of these require quite good arithmetic skills, if not mathematical skills. Some controllers do have university degrees (and more), but many have few qualifications and still make excellent ATC skills.

I would suggest that you apply in order to assess the likelyhood of your acceptance. You probably don't get greater odds of acceptance by becoming an ATC assistant, but it would give you an excellent backgroung when you go to the college and train for validation. I would highly recommend this route if it becommes available, although there are no guaruntees of progression to controlling.

Unfortunately you are unlikely to be able to take advantage of your West Drayton location though...

Thankyou for the reply. I WILL get that all important C or above in maths and i will go for it. I have been interested in ATC for a long time, so hopefully i will make it.

Thanks Again
