Manchester Frequency Change

Approach (currently 119.4) becomes 119.625 and
Tower (currently 119.625) becomes 119.4

Presumably this is fairly easy to achieve technically, as I suspect the aerials are on the same site.

My question is though -- why?

Chiglet, Cossack, etc - any ideas? I feel a story for my site coming on.

Thanks

To correct you slightly:

119.52 changes to 119.4 and vice versa.

Its to do with a little (political) problem we have using 119.4 as an approach frequency when a little airport in Kent is using it too. Its us that must change to reduce the area of coverage of 119.4, but I forget the precise reason why!

I'm sure niteflite01 has the inside track on this one but just isn't up yet! :D

Thanks Cossack ---- just checking you were all awake!!

Seriously though, I must have been half asleep when I read the 17 April changes and made the rash assumption that Tower and Approach swapping implied 118.62 - and then got it all completely wrong anyway......

Thanks again.

I was up - maybe I was working ;)

Anyhow, my excellent colleague cossack is entirely correct as usual.

119.4MHz is also used by a little grass airfield in Kent called Maypole ( http://www.maypoleairfield.com/ ).

As Approach (South) on 119.4MHz exceeded the Designated Operational Coverage (DOC) for that frequency, as set out by the CAA / NATS bods, we at EGCC had to be the ones to change.

Who says the little guys never win? :D

I hope it doesn't cause too much confusion with over eager crews pre-empting any frequency change with the old allocation - I'm pretty sure it won't :)
