Right now ATCs are being marched in one by one and handed their marching papers. Not all expats are being fired and they seem to have chosen the unlucky totally randomly meaning no reference to sick days or performance etc.

Word has it that 15-20 ATCs will be fired before the end of the day.

So? Fired or not?

Love that comment, kontrolor! It says so much about the ingrained (cultural) viewpoints we all have. The term "expat" elevates us (in our own minds) to a higher social status but we are of no more value (often less) than a person referred to as a "migrant worker" simply because of where they come from, as opposed to the value of the work they do for the host country or master.

Good one Kontrolor . When I went to work abroad in the 70s I joked to say I was a development worker . whose definition is : International aid/development workers provide aid and assistance to people and communities in the developing world.
I am sure the UAE would love you to use that term....

What a pile of cucked, virtue signalling, lefty twaddle. If you don't know the difference between an expat and a migrant worker then you are either hopelessly ignorant or staggeringly disingenuous. In this case, you are clearly the latter.

How many ATCOs come to the UAE looking for / hoping to find a position? Answer: None. They are all - without exception - recruited first and then subsequently travel to the host country to take up their positions.

A couple of facts:

Migrant workers in the UAE (and many other countries) do not come to the UAE to look for work. They are recruited elsewhere, usually in their home country, much like I was – and you too, likely – then offered a job in the UAE.

If you do a little research, you’ll find that expat is another term for a type of migrant worker. Though expats with a superior attitude might not like the term migrant worker – even though they meet the UN definition. The only real difference in much of the Middle East is that migrant workers who call themselves expats are much more highly paid, have significantly better working conditions, and have the luxury to be arrogant, without the fear of being jailed or otherwise punished.

Lastly, when it comes to the Middle East, I’ve lived and worked in the UAE (Dubai and Abu Dhabi), KSA, and Iraq. I’ve also lived and worked in Afghanistan, Indonesia, DRC, Hong Kong, India – and of course in my home country, which is one of those English-speaking places full of old white guys like me.

Your arrogance (as exhibited in your overtly nasty attack on my simple endorsement of a previous poster's humourous input) is only exceeded by your myopic world view. I would suggest more relaxation therapy of some sort – perhaps scuba diving, or dune driving. Or if you’re more the indoors type, maybe some reading or online classes about anthropology and culture.
