Missed Approach While Circling

Hello all, first i want to explain my question. You are approaching runway 28R and executing ILS approach for runway 28R. But due to wind, you will circle to land for runway 10L. As i understand, until the turning for base leg for runway 10L, if you have to go around, you must execute missed approach procedure for runway 28R.
"If visual reference is lost while circling to land from an instrument procedure, the missed approach specifed for the instrument approach runway must be followed.*

But my question is that: If you aligned the runway 10L at final approach stage, what procedure would be for your go around?

You still have to follow the MA for the approach runway. So climb straight ahead initially, technically to the MAPt of 28R, then carry out a reversal onto the MA.

Ask ATC as soon as possible and follow their instructions !

They know all the possible conflicts.

Thanks for the replies.

It is an important question. The regulation is clear as you had found out already.

Where I came from, the conclusion was that on downwind we take the initiative and suggest/advise to ATC what had been pre-planned as the best course.: "Flight XXYY, in case of Missed Approach from short final runway 10L, request ------".

Not query about the options, rather directly ask for something straight (a bit of a play with words here). And wait for their helpful response, or instructions.

Does it stand up to scrutiny here?

I believe it does in practice, but I'm not sure about it being by regulation. I offer this from Transport Canada's Aeronautical Information Manual (pg 291):

9.25 Missed Approach Procedure While Visually Manoeuvring in the Vicinity of the Aerodrome
The pilot may have to conduct a missed approach after starting visual manoeuvres. There are no standard procedures in this situation. Thus, unless the pilot is familiar with the terrain, it is recommended that:
(a) a climb be initiated;
(b) the aircraft be turned towards the centre of the aerodrome; and
(c) the aircraft be established, as closely as possible, in the missed approach procedure published for the instrument approach procedure just completed.
With the runway in sight at circling the MDA, the pilot should execute the missed approach if there is any doubt that the ceiling and visibility are inadequate for manoeuvring safely to the point of touchdown.

I don't recall this topic being specifically taught in my training (30+ years ago now) and my experience with circling procedures is not extensive. When I started out, non-radar operations were much more common than today, so I consider a question like this in the context of "I can't see the aircraft so I have no idea where it really is". In that type of operation I would protect the airspace for the approach as cleared and that for the missed, approach as published. If the aircraft went lost comm, that is the only area I would "sterilize", unless it comes time to add for a possible diversion to an alternate airport.

If a pilot feels a missed is possible and that it would be advantageous to head back to the beginning fix or navaid, he should ask for it when the approach clearance is first issued. Unless there is some compelling reason, it will likely be approved. But in my view, he'd be on the hook for obstacle clearance though.

Missed Approach while Circling

I checked our Manual of Air Traffic Services today. Along with the direction for circling approaches is a sidebar note with the following text:

If a missed approach is initiated during a circling procedure, the aircraft is expected to fly the published procedure as shown for the instrument approach just completed. The procedure for the runway on which the landing was planned will not be used.

Again, this is direction to controllers, not 'law of the land'. It is in sync with the earlier posting from our Aeronautical Information Manual.

Here's another one, large CAA in the middle.

If visual reference is lost while circling to land from an instrument approach, the missed approach specified for that particular procedure must be followed. From visual (circling) maneuver to M/A procedure, the pilot should make an initial climbing, and then turn toward the landing runway, climbing toaltitude of or above the circling altitude, then immediately intercept the specified M/A procedure. During the maneuver process, indicated airspeed should not exceed the maximum indicated airspeed allowed by visual maneuver.
