Appropriate response when called by controllers

Trivial and timid question, but I always hesitate how to responde.
Which one would be the best fit response when traffic controllers call you bu your call sign?
ex)
ATC: CX123, Hongkong.
CX123:
a) CX123, go ahead.
b) Go ahead, CX123.

Thanks in advance for resolving my 4-year old curiosity:D

Been wondering about this myself, and whether this response might be correct:
c) Hongkong, CX123

This if you are answering a call from ATC.

This if you are initiating a dialogue with ATC.

Don't know about other parts of the world but 'go ahead' is a nono in the UK; 'pass your message' is used instead.

GO AHEAD is Standard ICAO Annex 10 phraseology.
“Proceed with your message.” Note:- Not used whenever the possibility exists of misconstruing “GO AHEAD” as an authorization for an aircraft to proceed. The phrase “GO AHEAD” may be omitted and, in its place, a response made by using the calling aeronautical station’s callsign followed by the answering aeronautical station’s callsign.

just answer with your callsign if ATC are calling you. They do not need you to tell them to 'go ahead' .... that funny.

ATC: Callsign
Aircraft: Callsign
ATC: message...
What could be easier.

Your callsign is the key to acknowledge ATC are directing the message to you and/or you are receiving it. (less is best)

Don’t overthink it. We have heard them all.

This is best answer.

Or if you really want to piss them off...

”Standby”

I always reply with my callsign and a kind of question mark tone at the end. Usually works

Yeah, cause I might never need to tell you to do something RIGHT NOW, for your own, or someone else's safety.

Same in Ireland. Took me absolutely ages to train myself to stop saying "go ahead" though, roughly a year before I completely cut it out.

Last time I went through Annex 10 (probably a year ago at this stage), "go ahead" had been removed from approved standard phraseology.

As for required pilot response to call from ATC, callsign only is fine I would say. If you want to throw in "go", or "go ahead" or " what the hell do you want now?"....I don't particularly care!

From ICAO Doc 9432 - Section 2.6 - Standard words and Phrases

Note. The phrase “GO AHEAD” has been deleted, in its place the use of the calling aeronautical station’s call sign followed by the answering aeronautical station’s call sign shall be considered the invitation to proceed with transmission by the station calling.

I personally prefer just the callsign to be used as a response by pilots when I'm calling an aircraft. the fewer words on frequency the better.
