NATS Training at Global ATS
 

Having been allocated to a NATS Basic course with Global ATS I was wondering if anybody had any further information regarding the differences between training here and training at NATS CTC (despite the obvious geographical differences).

Do you tend to stay with the same colleagues you do your basic course with when you move on to area or aerodrome, or do you get split again?
Do you have continuation of training at Global after the Basic or move back to CTC?
Have NATS already made a decision whether you will do area or aerodrome and therefore your basic course is full of one of the disciplines?
Do Global do training for NATS for both area and Aerodrome, or do they get a higher proportion of one or the other?

Any information would be great though so chip in if you can, im sure many have the same sorts of questions.

You won’t do the “team bonding” activities that NATS do. IMHO too much time is spent on these activities in NATS and this is why historically the courses run by the non-NATS colleges are so much shorter. That said, NATS may still do these with you at a later stage. Other than that, the actual courses run by NATS and Global are the same, the end result is also the same e.g. you get the same Student ATCO Licence whether you went to Global or NATS.

You may find that you are involved in more relevant "bonding" activities! The BTC is the BTC - it cannot be biased toward airports or area control. Global does not run UK area control courses.

Would this suggest this is a Aerodrome only course then, or do NATS historically send people back to the CTC after basic?

Yeah, I'd be pretty certain you will be going down the tower route.

What "team bonding" activities do you have in mind?
