Effect on SIDS/STARS when a speed limit given
 

Hi

More for the UK and Europe but when you get a speed/heading change having been on/given a SID/STAR are you effectively off that departure/route when that new ATC instruction given.

Good airmanship would be for you to try and catch the conditions, e.g.. MAY at or above 6000' at 220kts but legally you are not obliged too.

Saw a circular about it many years ago.

A radar heading would exempt you from a SID restriction such as cross XYZ above 3000'. A new speed restriction or the cancelling of one would not make any difference to the profile requirements of SIDs or STARs. I take it that if this meant a level restriction could not be met ATC would be informed.

ok, a speed restriction then overrides all published STAR speeds and the separation for the following of traffic, i.e. ATC take full control?

Leading on, if your given a speed to fly and you follow this this instruction.

You then are gaining on an aircraft ahead of you you obviously slow down don't you?

Did the ATC make an error or just stick to that requested speed?
