MAN zone transit request Friday 1/8/14?
 

Hello,

i am looking to fly my Father overhead his home town of Middlewich ( major birthday present) in a C152 from Sleap. Is there anything I can do / anyone I can speak to to increase the chances of routing....Winsford Flash to Holmes Chapel at around 10:00 local tomorrow?

Call the tower sup beforehand and have a word. It will (as always) be dependent on traffic, however Middlewich is far enough away that it shouldn't be much of a problem.

What I'd do though is contact the tower before starting, that way you can also pass on your details and save having to pass them all over the RT.

Crazy Voyager is spot on.
Sleap will have the number if you can't find it yourself. Holmes Chapel is right on the edge of the CTR so you will need to call them. Although their main task is EGCC traffic, they're a friendly team up there.
Although it's been a while since I did it, I'm sure 99% of all ATCOs would prefer a phone-call regarding something you're not sure about, rather than just getting airborne and making a Horlicks of it.
Also keep a very good look-out around the southern end of the low-level corridor.

A phone call is always best, especially as the amount of infringements around the Manchester area are (at least so I've been told) record high.

Winsford Flash is not in the EGCC zone. Its at the bottom end of the Low level route. Also Holmes Chapel is not inside the CTR, (since the CTR was changed) so if you are routing to the southern edge of Holmes Chapel there will be no problem. Obviously remaining below CAS. Best procedure is to Squawk 7366 (EGCC listening out frequency) and monitor 118.575 (EGCC Radar). If you need to enter CAS call up on that frequency. The EGCC new number is 0161 209 2836 if you prefer to call before hand.

According to the current EGCC CTR/CTA chart, on the NATS website, the town of Holmes Chapel is about Inm inside class D airspace.

You'll almost go overhead on that route.

They really are quite friendly and accommodating at CC, phone then call on freq when approaching.
You'll be pretty unlucky not to be allowed to bounce along the edge of the zone at puddle jumper altitude.

Just watch out for traffic in the Low Level Route, there's stuff not talking to anyone using it.

You are incorrect!!
Holmes Chapel is a EGCC VRP 1nm OUTSIDE of the EGCC CTR beneath the CTA. The map is AD 2-EGCC-4-1 dated 30 April 2014. Thats why I stated, if the OP was remaining to the southern side of Holmes Chapel there would be no problem?
Which map are you referencing?

I was looking at the same chart. The VRP is, as you say, outside the CTR, where the Crewe-Wilmslow Railway line crosses the M6, but the town of Holmes Chapel is actually inside CAS.

I agree completely with your last post. However your earlier post referred to the "latest NATS chart where Holmes Chapel was 1nm inside controlled airspace". The town of Holmes Chapel is not marked on that chart, only the VRP. Which as we both know is outside. That is why I responded.

Yes it is, and so it Middlewich.
Both are visible in the ochre/brown background ornament. A track from Winsford Flash via overhead Middlewich to Holmes Chapel would certainly put the aircraft inside Class D airspace, even routing to the M6-based VRP.
Now, earlier-on, 'Crazy' Voyager' alerts us to the possibility that CAS infringements around EGCC are at as record high. This is sad to hear, because:-
1. All the flying clubs that operate in this area are very professional, and,
2. The operational ATC staff at EGCC are, (and always have been), fairly 'G.A. friendly'.
In about 2010, NATS introduced a piece of technology known as CAIT..The Controlled airspace Infringement Tool. If you are squawking, and stray inside CAS, (certainly vertically, and may be laterally, - but I could be wrong here), your SSR code will change from blue to magenta on the ATCOs radar, (sorry, situation display), indicating an Infringement of CAS has taken place. Details of CAIT are available on the internet.
Don't panic though, this isn't, (as far as I'm aware), designed to instantly print-out the aeronautical equivalent of an 'NIP'. ATCOs are not, 'policemen', but it could lead to a follow-up 'telephone-call', and may be one of the reasons for the information referred to by 'Crazy Voyager'.
Please do not take these comments as a 'point-scoring' exercise against WIP or anyone else.
Incidentally, the NATS IAIP document AD 2-EGCC-4-1 dated 30 April 2014 still shows EGCD as an aerodrome with an ATZ, 2 runways and an operational NDB. I believe this to be incorrect as I have been involved with the planning of the housing development on the site and know personally the gentleman who turned the 'WFD' off for the final time.
But what of Steven, and his 'trip'? A great sense of satisfaction to take your father flying?…..You bet.

Hi, We had to abandon the flight with cloudbase that day down to 700feet.

Trying again this afternoon though...will call the phone no. given first.
