UAE ATC Manager $10,000
who what where why?
Abu Dhabi? Cut and paste from someone else's job description? |
What exactly are you asking ... and where is it posted.
|
Has to a week doesn't it?
|
|
That's only £6k a month at current exchange rates. With no pension.
The sand is not always greener on the other side |
Salary $ 10,000 per month + Accomodation +Education + Car Allowance + Health Insurance + Life Insurance Especially the Accomodation/Education elements. |
Not really. The house (and other allowances) is only for as long as you are in the job.
You'd still need to either save or be paying a mortgage for your retirement from the job. The amount of money NATS (for instance) pays into the CAAPS pension for an individual would mean for many, looking purely at cold hard numbers, financially it didn't stack up. Of course it isn't all about the money, and different people have different, equally valid, views. I know that It would need to be a lot more than $10k a month to persuade me to jump ship. |
anotherthing,
greetings, and a belated Happy New Year to you. Had you been forced to 're-locate' to Ayrshire, you would find that the sand is often blacker, due in part to the sub-marine outcrop of 'Westphalian' strata. |
Greetings Zooker,
HNY to you too! Like i said, it's obviously down to the individual. I did look at going to warmer climes at one stage but it wasn't for me. I'm glad NATS (for now) pays handsomely into CAAPS for me. I know if I went abroad my inability to save money would mean having a great time in the moment, but having a pretty dismal retirement! |
For those of you interested, the airport in question is Fujairah, on the UAE's beautiful east coast. And the salary isn't so bad considering it has an average of less than 5 scheduled flights per day. ;)
|
The "UAE's beautiful east coast".
Is that the coast that looks directly out on to the boundary of The Arabian and Eurasian tectonic plates? |
$10,000 a month in the UAE is nothing anymore.
I could understand the benefits of accommodation in the package and school fees. But while the money looks good that way, you won't have a life, unless you plan to cook and entertain yourself at home. If you want to furnish your place to a Western standard you will have lost your first two month's salary. You will need a Prado or equivalent. Your significant other will need one as well. If you think you will be happy with a Corolla, you have yet to drive on roads in the UAE, with DXB and AUH being the more sedate of the Emirates. A quick drive on the road between them is all a Prado salesman needs to get you to sign up. School fees are paid yes. But activities are not. Rugby, soccer, tae kwon do etc all going to cost you each month. Internet, mobiles, mulkias, speeding fines (you will speed), the risk of having to fork out 50,000AUD should you happen to look at someone the wrong way. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic place to live, but you need more than $10k for it to have any short and long-term benefit. Farrell |

the risk of having to fork out 50,000AUD should you happen to look at someone the wrong way More info required on that. Is this specific to Fujairah? Cheers |
You can get arrested and thrown in jail without trial just for turning your back on the wrong person (anywhere in the UAE). Stay away. IMHO

NIA(L) vs FIA
If this is Fujairah, how come they call themselves NIA, when the IATA code is FIA?
Is there another airport called NIA? Anybody who can spread a little light on this? |
DONT DO IT..! if you are single and prepared to put up with a LOT of **** for the first 1 year, then maybe it mite suit....otherwise I hope youve got DEEP pockets..! I'm £12000 out of pocket and no sign of getting it back, contracts are dodgy and the goalposts keep moving..!

Fuj ATC
Well, we all have different experiences and lead different lives when in the UAE.
I was in Fujairah ATC for 3 and a half years, had a great time, left with my bucket of sh#t basically empty and my other bucket quite well filled thank you, for those of you that know the two buckets! ;-) :E :ok: So I had no financial issues and was never out of pocket. Bought and paid for a new car whilst I was there and really enjoyed my time. Only left because my "home" job asked me to come back.... Fujairah may not suit everybody, but just like all work placements in the Middle East, it is what you make of it. There are going to be challenges, then it just depends on how you might look at a cup half full - to see if you will smile, curse or :ugh: Maybe I just smile too much :ok: |
Neptune
Can you confirm that NIA actually is FUJ?
|
as per my knowledge its AUH
|
fujairah
Actually it's a FJR / OMFJ
