Recommend online ATC simulator?
 

Just looking for something close to realistic to practice on before I go for the AsA testing day.

Any suggestions? (Free is always good, but I'm open to paying for something good).

I don't know of any online simulators and I don't work in ATC but I believe that a program called "London Control" is quite good and may even include a demo version to try first.

This is what I used back in the day. The old AsA testing was on a program based on this so the commands were similar. Assuming it is still the same test, there will be two high level routes at the top of the screen as well. Make sure to keep an eye on pending traffic for these routes as I may or may not remember that there is a scenario where right on the end of the screen an aircraft pops up and is pretty quickly in conflict with another:ok:

Problem with "simulators" is that they can never get even close to the real thing. For a start, there isn't someone sitting next to you screaming down your ear that if you ever hand him something like that again..............

A BA 747 skipper friend of mine had difficult landing MS FS 747 whereas I could land it 5 times out of 10. He could complete a good session on Flightsim but I ended up with aluminium scattered over half of southern England.

I fancy being a cardio-vascular surgeon. Are there any online simulators you could recommend to prepare me for my assessment day? What about dentistry, or working in an Amazon 'Fulfilment Centre'?

Now now. I am pretty sure that at a vascular surgery intake they don't have you slicing people or even simulated people open. Nice try though. :rolleyes:

As I suggested, Tracon is a perfect warm up for the event as the device they will use is an evolution of that. Don't let your man love for the old brigade cloud your judgement of what is appropriate.

The simulations used on the assessment day I attended (3 years ago) involved shifting bits of card around a laminated A3 radar screen as briefed by the assessment staff.

The tower simulation was very similar with moving aircraft around a birds eye view of an aerodrome.

A little bit of imagination at home and you can make your own.

It might have become a little bit more technically advanced since then, I don't know.

If you want the guy next to you (well on the phone) shouting about handing something like that ever again try IVAO United Kingdom. The pilots are also human and as such can be slightly unpredictable :E

Are you in Perth, Australia or Perth, Scotland?

Try VATSIM (he's the Oz outfit) VATPAC Australia Quite a few RW pilots at ATCOs use it, usually for role reversal to see the other side of the picture. Whilst it will never get close to the real thing, I think even the hardened cynic would be impressed at the efforts to get it as close as is possible.
