LTMA organization

Hi guys,

Was looking for some one to brief me on London TMA organization.
Waypoints in and out of EGGW, EGSS EGCY and EGKK and typical altitudes.
If you are coming in from the south at say FL350 into EGGW, what are ATCs most important issues regarding separations?

Cheers

There isn't really a short answer for this! I can tell you you'll be level at FL180 for a while northbound from around the south coast until you approach London.

The holding fix you'll eventually route to, or where the STAR ends, will be LOREL. This is one of 2 holding fixes shared for traffic into EGGW, EGSS and EGSC and is controlled by Essex Radar.

Transition altitude in London is 6000'. Min release level into LOREL is mininum holding level plus 1000'. So on a high pressure day FL80. This is because Essex Radar controls the EGSS westbound departures and climbs them up to minimum holding level underneath these inbounds.

Before you approach LOREL you'll mainly have EGGW and EGLL eastbound departures via Brookmans Park VOR being climbed beneath you.

I don't work in the wonderful world that is the LTMA but I would suggest you have a look on the AIP at the STARS for the individual airports.

Although i'm sure there are plenty of LTMA controllers on here.
