My answer was a bit tongue in cheek. You might like to read this. Yes it could be a scam, there's info there on how to check it

VFR Excemptions.

well i posted the cheque this afternoon when you said it was correct

but it seems now after reading link that aircraft vfr and under 2 tonnes are not supposed to be charged in germany

i came on here for some advice from a atc person that i would have expected them to know as in the uk ive never had a charge sent to me

so some duff advice got them some money good job its only 21 euros

Was it enroute fee or did you land on an international aerodrome and they charged you a departure fee?? These will also affect VFR flights, enroute charges for flights below 2 tonnes should not be collected.

No I paid all my airport fees at each airport before I left

Are you new here?

If you're flying a 2 tonne heli around Europe you must know that you'll find the definitive answers or a pointer of who to contact in the AIP - and that's not much harder to check than asking on a web site that is seemingly populated fewer and fewer professional contributors!

More usefully it might have been helpful to mention who was billing you and what the charges were for. Maybe then you would have got a more specific answer.

Grumble over - and sorry you got the rough end of it - but it's been a bit of a bad day.

Yeah well obviously it's Lon More's fault you got scammed...

Maybe you should Sue him for your 21 Euros... (sic)

If you weren't supposed to be charged and you paid the bill, simply write to them explaining that you thought your aircraft was exempt and request a refund. If you are entitled to a refund, I'm sure you will receive it.

Did you land at any of these?

Berlin (Tegel, Tempelhof,
Schönefeld), Bremen, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Erfurt, Frankfurt,
Hamburg, Hannover, Köln/Bonn, Leipzig, München, Münster-
Osnabrück, Nürnberg, Saarbrücken, and Stuttgart

If so, then check the receipt carefully, because DFS charge Terminal Fees for approaching the airport. I got caught by Nürnberg once. No big deal, but paid landing fee to airport, but DFS billed me separately for the use of ATC facilities to land there. Can't remember how much I paid now.

Why didn't you just cancel the cheque?
