Flight Information Safety Officer

Hi, I was wondering what are the procedures in terms of applying to become a FISO, after I have finished College and gained my PPL?#

Thanks

Nick

Take a look at CAP427 and CAP410 - comes in two parts, A and B.

Flight Information Safety Officer
FISO = Flight Information SERVICE Officer.

And in order to train as a FISO you must hold an A/G Certificate of Competence (CAP 452) or an ATCO Licence.
Even if you hold an FRTOL, you must pass both written and practical exams to be awarded the A/G C of C, then you must pass the written FISO exam. If you have an ATCO Licence with a current C of C in ADI or ADV, you can apply for a FISO Licence without taking extra exams.

I hear that there is very little demand for FISOs at the moment. A mate of mine is currently training to become a FISO and he is very concerned about not finding anywhere to validate.

Don't know about that phil, but at my unit all of us FISOs have alternative sources of income, whether it be CPL, personal trainer, AFI or a pension from another source, so if becoming a FISO, it might be a good idea to have a second string to your bow.
