UFOs over Cheshire Jan 29th?
I was driving along the M62 eastbound last night at about 11.30pm and to the north (Haydock area) there was what I can only describe as a convoy of bright orange lights in the sky at an altitude of about 3000 ft. They were generally in threes and there must have been about 15-20 of them. I was not hallucinating and this was confirmed when I saw a passenger in the car next to mine at the traffic lights photographing the event. Personally I have never seen anything remotely resembling this. About 10-15 minutes later the lights had all fizzled out. Did MAN or LPL ATC receive any reports?

Chinese lanterns? Definitely orange, and usually travel in groups...

Can we have a sticky about lines of orange-red lights floating in the sky being Chinese lanterns? .... as I am fed up having my hopes dashed of reading about a "real" UFO on here.
Thanks boss! |
I saw at least 7 in Manchester being launched from just off Oxford Road area

Dam nuisance these chinese lanterns! Frighten livestock and litter the countryside. There have been instances of animals actually chocking on the wreckage, fire hazzard and totally pointless!!

Thank you all for solving the mystery.

Feb 3rd. Chinese New Year.
Year of the Rabbit. Expect a lot more sightings. :ok: |
Hmm so im going to be cleared for an ILS23R lantern shoot out again! Well i suppose it'll bring out the f*ckwits with lasor pens again for the cops to try and catch. Perhaps a welding helmet/visor would be an idea.........security permitting of course.

Apparently a lantern landed on the runway at Luton airport over New Years eve. Clever lantern!
