neither do you if you're IAA management:ooh:

737-500 20th Jan 2010 08:13

and i think we all know what company 737-500 is going to be working for. going to EMA to change your 500 rating to an 800 for FR? how much are you being charged eh, go on, give us a laugh. last i heard, MOL was charging not only the cabin crew to wear his uniform, but is also charging the pilots their medical so they can work for him, their 8 hours in the sim twice a year so they can fly for him
Ya its going to cost a lot. But I have been working since I was 14 to pay for it, I did not have it handed to me on a plate like ATC have.

can you imagine if the IAA charged ATC's to learn how to be ATC's!!!!!
Maybe they should and put you on contracts as well and not allow trade unions. Bet you would think twice before going on strike then:=

400,000 people on the dole, the rest emigrating and ATC looking for a 6% pay rise! I have great respect for ATCO's and I mean that but you can see why I am slightly annoyed:ok:

Ber Nooly 20th Jan 2010 08:32

I agree with 737 in that I have a lot of respect for ATCs, but nobody on here has explained what the new technology is exactly, and what problem they have with it. From the IAA's site I see they've done away with the upper ATS routes - in what way does that warrant a 6% increase?

viper3 20th Jan 2010 09:02

New Tech

The last NEW system decreased our capacity according to Eurocontrol, requires more controller inputs to perform non separation tasks ( feed the machine) and has required dozens of patches and bug fixes.
Remember the system outages june/july. 08
who picked up that pile of poo
ATCOs

As We Keep Saying
Management dragged the pay issue in to muddy the waters we just want our colleagues back on the payroll.
Every worker is involved in pay negotiations/ disputes but in this case it IS a separate issue

Manchester ATC 20th Jan 2010 09:02

It's nice to see the atc lads in Ireland, standing by there union partners who have been suspended.

Maybe if we all supported them, this dispute would be sorted in hours rather than days, weeks, maybe months.

Lets have a total walkout and ground all planes.

:=

Sober Lark 20th Jan 2010 10:21

It must be very stressful.

Your employer, not you bears the market risk of providing for retirement. (have you any idea what that sentence means, how lucky you are?).

You have to handle less traffic, disrupt the travel plans of a few thousand people, diminish the profits of airlines already operating in very difficult economic conditions and you choose to strike? Any of you strikers know what it is like not to have a job?

Ceannairceach 20th Jan 2010 10:26

I think they do, that's why they're striking to support their suspended colleagues.

Nimmer 20th Jan 2010 10:29

Good on you guys in ireland, keep standing for what you want. I just wish prospect had some balls.

This is meant to be an ATC forum and it appears we don't stick together, it does indicate to me why we in NATS, have a crap union like prospect, which gave in to privatisation, threw away our pension and negotiated a brilliant payrise for 2010.

I for one admire staff who won't let management walk all over them, however timing is probably a bit wrong. Suggest easter holidays next time!!!

Thank you Ryanair for giving yet another reason to delay you!!!! Hope you enjoy holding patterns!!!

viper3 20th Jan 2010 10:37

sober lark

Definitely IAA management aren't we.
WE WILL RETURN TO WORK WHEN OUR COLLEAGUES ARE REINSTATED.
Did you understand that sentence.
Stop trying to muddy the waters
Suggest all participants ignore the agent provocateur:E

mikk_13 20th Jan 2010 10:43

Stick it to them!!!!!!!!!!

I like the ryan air spin. I guess I am overpaid and under worked as well since I am an ATC in europe. Hopefully the euro atc's don't take the lack of support and understanding to heart and stop supplying the endless short cuts to save their fuel............

fisbangwollop 20th Jan 2010 11:28

From Ryanair's web sight today....Due to industrial action by overpaid and underworked air traffic controllers in Ireland, Ryanair has been forced to cancel 52 flights today (20th Jan) affecting over 6,000 passengers.

Mr O Leary seems to forget about all the times our guys stick their necks out and give his flights direct routeings etc!!!

Sober Lark 20th Jan 2010 11:55

His antenna doesn't pick up all the channels.

Viper3, wouldn't a more obvious conclusion be that I'm but one of the thousands of passengers whose travel plans have been disrupted?

Cows getting bigger 20th Jan 2010 12:32

Hi, I'm sat on the ground here at Prestwick whiling away the hours until I can get into Cork IFR. :)

Can someone please explain to me, objectively, what this is all about?

konstantin 20th Jan 2010 12:37

All, please have a read of this link for a bit of background info from the non-Ryanair side

http://irishatcfactfile.wordpress.com/2010/01/19/the-second-effort-is-pure-spin/

nosefirsteverytime 20th Jan 2010 13:21

Cows getting bigger, you're not going to get an objective answer here. A union closed shop.

If IMPACT wanted the general public on-side, they'd have given the week's notice that strikes should get.

Instead they threw all their toys out of the pram and called a wildcat. (You guys call it a meeting or whatever, I call any work stoppage without the proper notice served a WILDCAT STRIKE!)

Well, you're either having a whinge because there's a fancy new computer sitting in the corner, or you're having a whinge because you want a reason to get more money.

Awww poor diddums. Welcome to the private sector's world.

to the 15: Grow a pair and deal with the computer!

Knowing nothing about this dispute it took me by surprise. So I was prepared to give the controllers the benefit of the doubt. But so far nothing is convincing me to think you controllers are the good guys in this one.

To suggest that this dispute is all about the suspensions is not credible. I've yet to see a decent sensible explanation as to why this new technology is so bad. Is it about the technology or is it about getting more money for using it. But then Viper pops in an say

The NEC would prefer if there was no thread or if no Irish Atcos were involved.
Radio silence has it's benefits too.
Ok Viper that to me sounds just a little arrogant. Make your case here. Explain to people at large the real motivation for what nosefirsteverytime rightfully describes as wildcat strike. Keeping quiet about it only reinforces the opinion that's there more to this than meets the eye. The notion that you are only doing this to protect the general public doesn't wash.

You and your union has woefully misjudged the public relations issues here. The IAA have judged it right in their media approach. You have failed and there is a strong risk you have over extended yourselves to the detriment of your members.

The public will judge it like this: Another arrogant unionised group of semi public service workers unable the grasp the economic realities, as they will see it.

While you claim the pay rise is nothing to do with it. Quite frankly the IAA think so. I mean for crying out loud 6%..................6 bloody percent. What planet are you guys living on? In my entire life of low pay and long hours. I never once got 6%, even at the height of economic boom and you guys think it's reasonable to get 6% after last December's budget was cutting people by 5% or more.

I'm seriously disappointed, you've blown it badly. This strike won't continue. It was a serious miscalculation and you fell for the management trap. Michael O'Leary must have a team in their advising them.:ugh::ugh::ugh:

737-500 20th Jan 2010 15:24

The number suspended is up to 20 now. The IAA ARE NOT going to back down on this one. The ATCO's need to realise that the IAA pay their wages and do the hiring and firing not IMPACT:hmm:

Hopefully the euro atc's don't take the lack of support and understanding to heart and stop supplying the endless short cuts to save their fuel............

Thank you Ryanair for giving yet another reason to delay you!!!! Hope you enjoy holding patterns!!!
And these are suppose to be professionals! Ha ha

ImnotanERIC 20th Jan 2010 15:28

what is unprofessional about ensuring all ryanair aircraft fly the full flight planned route at standard speeds?

737-500 20th Jan 2010 15:40

Only for Ryanair half of you would not have a job so don't get smart!

iwhak 20th Jan 2010 15:49

Yes....is that not what you have being doing for the last two days, ensuring EVERY aircraft flies the full flight planned route, have you any idea how much fuel costs, your dispute is with the IAA, not the airlines!
