SACrIGGER 25th Dec 2009 21:44

It was hardly worth me working today... spoke to 3 a/c!

Manchester ATC 25th Dec 2009 22:24

People forget at this time of the year, without the controllers giving up their free time, there would not be any flights.

Very well done to all controllers.

Arkwright 26th Dec 2009 09:06

Heathrow ATIS yesterday....

As one of the very few aircrew flying yesterday, I'd like to thank whoever responsible for the "festive message" that greeted our return to London. :D

Whilst still over the French mainland, tuning Biggin's VOR provided many smiles..... even got the CC up front to have a listen!

I suppose, when you HAVE to work on Christmas day, the right attitude will see you through! :ok:

HEATHROW DIRECTOR 26th Dec 2009 10:03

So glad to hear the ATIS fun continues.. Used to get involved in that many moons ago. One year we broadcast various "cracker riddles" and asked for answers on various frequencies.... Huge fun. One time the ATIS information was given as "Fandabidozi" and hearing some crews trying to pronouce it reduced us to screaming wrecks!!

without the controllers giving up their free time,
And there was I thinking we actually got paid for it!

It wasn't a very well thought out post was it. Mind you it was at 2324 on Xmas day. Maybe he'd been on the vino all afternoon:ok:, and therefore not at work:=

Worked "Nights" Christmas eve,
Worked "Earlies" this am.
Working "Afternoons" Tomorrow
Retire at the "End of Jan" [Not going to Scotland from MACC]
In all my years in the job,[1968-2010] I have had "Christmas" [Eve, Day and Boxing Day] off three times.
Would I change my career? NOT a Chance in HELL :D
I am both happy and sad, that the "R" date has come :{
Good luck to all at NPC :ok:

ZOOKER 31st Dec 2009 22:20

"Dont worry we will take care of the CC brigade....."
fisbang, isn't that why (allegedly) about 40 of them have already left?
No wonder Hadrian had the foresight to construct such a substantial and 'robust' Wall. :E :E
VERY BEST WISHES, AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU.

Ceannairceach 1st Jan 2010 00:06

I moved to Scottish from MACC and I love it, as I'm sure an awful lot of my colleagues will. Sure, it wasn't and isn't easy - but it's a great place with great people.

Sorry not to take my place on the bandwagon Zooker et al :E

In that case there are 40 crazy people then!! .........I'm a Lancastrian, having worked at Scottish for the past 32 years I could not think of a better place to work.....great area and great folk to work with.....I am sure our Manchester friends will soon realise that Scottish is the place to be......good luck to one and all that's making the move!:cool::cool:

ZOOKER 1st Jan 2010 15:03

fisbang,
are you sure you don't mean "Great partners to work with" :E
Lon,
a nice try, but in the words of Mr. Loyd Grossman, "Let's look at the evidence"
Check out the photo of Prestwick beach.
Look at the fragmented Strato-cumulus streaming off the peaks of North Arran.
Marvel at that mighty Cu-nimb north of the Clyde.
Look at the Marram thrashing around in the foreground. That picure was taken in a bright day with a high-shutter-speed, so that grass was really moving about.
But, look at the state of the sea.
On the Beaufort Scale that's got to be a Force 5 (Fresh Breeze). That's 18-24 mph. (16-20kts).
No wonder that beach is deserted! :}

Zooker - the photo was taken in October so I'm sure I could have found better. Here''s one of Mancunians on a break.

FWIW I never made it to Manchester however I much preferred the time i spent at Redbrae to the sentence at HMP West Drayton

ZOOKER 1st Jan 2010 15:39

Hell, is that the young Lloyd-Webber, 2nd from left?
Theyre reet proper northern butties too. Never mind the quality, feel the width! :ok:

javelin 1st Jan 2010 18:58

Chiglet,

Enjoy the start of your 3rd career at the end of Jan !

Enjoyed a pleasant shortcut into LBA last night, right down 05L - bit high unless we were a Shuttle, but we were doing shuttle speed !

Thanks for your controlling, I am sure we have discoursed many times :ok:

Jav

p.s. - You haven't got a lad that works for us have you ?

The end is near ?

A few words from that Sinatra Song

And now the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend I'll say it clear
I'll state my case of which I'm certain

I've lived a life that's full
I traveled each and every airway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way

Regrets I've had a few
But then again too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption

I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the airway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way

Yes there were times I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out, I faced it all
And I stood tall and did it my way

I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fill, my share of losing
And now as tears subside
I find it all so amusing

To think I did all that
And may I say not in a shy way
Oh no, oh no, not me
I did it my way

For what is a man what has he got
If not himself then he has not
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way

Yes it was my airway
