RNAV

I list my aircraft equipment in item 10 of the ICAO flight plan as SYRG/S (its a Cessna 172). I use G because the aircraft have an IFR certified GPS and I list R as it has BRNAV(RNP-5). I recently read that the inclusion of R indicates that the aircraft meets the RNP type for the route flown. If I fly from an airport with a BRNAV SID (RNP-5) to an airport with a PRNAV STAR (RNP-1) should I omit the R and if I do how does ATC know I have BRNAV equipment. I ask because it can be very useful to be able to fly a BRNAV SID but I don't want ATC at the destination airport to plan on offering a PRNAV STAR only to be told "unable" by me. What would you recommend.

I'd recommend you put in the "R" in field 10; but either use a STS or RMK in field 18 such as "RMK/RNP-5" or "STS/RNP-5". There shouldn't be too many APP/ARR controllers offering a C172 an PRNAV STAR without thinking seriously about the status of your nav gear.

Also though, don't file your route to the PRNAV STAR points, file the route to the main aerodrome NAVAID (VOR/NDB etc.), that way automatic systems should not/won't allocate you the STAR automatically; thus it gives us a good chance at our end to spot it.
