Question for a manch app controller

Hi guys, question regarding the low level corridor, I know that there is a listening squawk for flying near the Manchester zone and the corridor 7366, but what if like me you don't have a transponder, I fly up/down the corridor from time to time and since the introduction of a listening squawk I was thinking things may have changed as regard to just listen in on 118.575, or call for a basic service if not transponder equipped

Last time I asked this question I was told just listen out on 118.575 no need to call we will assume that your doing it right but that was pre listening squawk days,

So for a non squawking aircraft is it still just listen in if there's nothing I req from you guys.

Nick.

Perhaps there's a lack of MAN ATC on this forum that actively post... why don't you try phoning or writing to them? They'll help you out more than we will.

Hi magpienja
I do manch app. as far as I am concerned if you want a basic service in the LLR, call up and we will provide you with one, if you wish to transit the LLR and just listen out thats your choice because we do not know that you are there all I see is a primary radar return .The 7366 procedure was introduced to cut down on R/T time it just shows that you are listening out and we can raise you if required

KEEP A SHARP LOOKOUT! :ok:
"There may be aircraft in the Low Level Corridor unknown to ATC".
What is a 'listening watch'? - Something you can buy from Ratners? :E
Just because there is nothing on the wireless doesn't mean there is no conflicting traffic.

Hi Mr Zooker did sombody mention listening watch, I have been back through the posts and can find no reference to LISTENING WATCH, is this indeed something you buy from Ratners????

If you read my 1st post I do state, IF I DON'T REQ ANY SERVICE and am quite happy looking out of the window to stop me bumping into other aircraft, then what would you guys prefer me to do in my non squawking aircraft, would it be,

A, call in for a basic service,

OR

B, Just go about my bussness and dont bother you,

Just trying to find out the best course of action these days,

Now just remind me were is my local Ratners.

as I said before ,if you want a service call us, if you want to bumble along and "do your own thing" its your choice. We do not issue squawks to acft in the LLR ,so the fact that you not have a transponder has no effect on what service you would get.

magpienja 22nd Mar 2009 17:38

Its prob just me not making myself clear,

I DON'T req any service, I just want to know weather to call for a basic or not if you guys are happy NOT to hear from a non squawking aircraft.

Noiseboy 22nd Mar 2009 18:33

They are perfectly happy for you to transit the corridor without talking to them, there is no need to be able to squark.

They will also be very happy to help with information should you have need of it some day and provide a basic service if requested in that instance.

If you're happy not having a formal service, and just actually enjoying flying and not talking to anyone, keep doing that! If ATC see an aircraft that's in immediate danger of, say, infringing the zone or getting run down by a formation of Chinooks, they'll call to see if it's listening out, usually by calling "...the aircraft overhead xxx..." or "...traffic 10 miles east of xxx airport..." etc. In this respect it doesn't matter whether you're wearing a 'listening-out squawk' or not; we just assume that if you are, we have a much greater chance of contacting you immediately.

Ok many thanks guys, sounds like carry on as before then.

Nick.
