Lba Twr/app To Macc Transfer

I've noticed in the last week or so when LBA ATC is advising pilots of the departure frequency, they are also adding the phrase "expect transfer at 3.5 DME". Does anyone know what this is all about ?

Thankyou :ok:

only a guess
maybe so they don't change frequency till advised
often non uk crews do on gear up without saying goodbye:ok:

Well, Yesterday WOW482L went to MACC EAST before handoff, as the NM AIR Controller was trying to contact him after departure, but he had already gone to 133.8 without permission.

Dont know if this helps,
Jonjo

That is MACC East's frequency, but it will have been for MACC North and East on this occasion - WOW dont have any routes through the actual east sector!
This may have something to do with noise abatement, hopefully an NM person can shed some light.

Yes, it was EAST bandboxed with NTHLO and NTHUP on 133.8

Thanks,
Jonjo

If using 32 sounds like end of noise abatement procedure to me, if 14 then could happen at 2nm. Not too sure just a guess as have not operated into there for a while

3.5 DME is the end of the NPR for Jets on RWY 32. Its 2.1 DMS for turboprops off RWY 32.

ILS 119.5 22nd Feb 2009 22:37

Correct. Did not fly TP's so 2.1 DME irrevelent to me. But still at a guess it is something to do with the NPR's.

That might explain why we (MACC) were called by Leeds a few days to go to ask if we were aware of their NPRs.

To which I replied No!

ILS 119.5 23rd Feb 2009 21:21

It seems to me that LBA have had a complaint about aircraft deviating from the NPR. Hence if Manchester are not aware of the Leeds NPR and a/c are transferred before the end of the NPR then Manchester will turn them off the NPR. So all Leeds are doing are protecting themselves, by transferring a/c at the end of the NPR, from any public criticism. If this is the case, only speculation.
