speed reduction to 250 IAS

Hi everybody

Is there any time limit for speed reduction from a descend speed of, say 300 IAS to 250 IAS when radar-vectored in the approach area?
A figure of 2min / 1 min was mentioned.
My understanding was that one should do it asap..but don't know if asap is time limited
thanks for your time

I'd imagine it's very variable in terms of what you actually get, but I've always worked on 1K per second... So around a minute is reasonable for this request, but it depends on what the a/c is doing, on a good rate of descent etc will get significantly less reduction in speed when compared to level flight.

thanks Blockla....sounds rasonable, 60kts in 1min looks like a good figure
300 kts to 240 in one min
thank you for your time

I'd agree 1Kt per second is the generic 'Rule of Thumb' for speed reductions.

Hmmm, try that in a heavy A330 and it will be fun!

Try getting an A330 or A340 to climb at anything more than the curvature of the Earth ... at any weight ;)

Seriously though, ATC do not expect instantaneous speed reductions and don't plan on them. Those lucky enough to have Mode S downlinked parameters can soon work out how quickly the IAS is changing :ok:
