Hi Hangten - At Gatwick we're not approved by the CAA specifically to verify mode C, only to validate correct code selected. And I checked with MOAT this morning!:O

ex-rotaree-which unit does it will depend on equipment/controller licensing local orders etc-at some units the Approach controller always works the outbounds so he will do it, whereas on 27 ours very rarely do
no problem with the visit-just ring the ATC supervisors desk and they will be happy to arrange something or PM me and will help, I am away mid August-thank heavens! |

ATM: Aerodrome Traffic Monitor. Effectively it's an air radar screen in the visual control room that's used by the Tower ATCO, but only for limited, specified uses. The Tower ATCO might not have a radar rating, so it cannot be used as a surveillance radar to provide Approach Radar services. Some of the uses might be:

At Liverpool, it happens routinely because the Tower controller is responsible (as per local unit instructions) for verifying the Mode C readout, rather than Approach.

Nothing, really. Just updated equipment, eg daylight viewing screens(colour telly).

vespasia - PMs... I was going to say exactly what they said about the Mode C verification... I've always been told that it is not agreed at LGW - it is the only one on the list that we don't have for some reason. |
