Looking for Jobs within ATC (assistant)
 

I was wondering if someone could help me on this question?
I have been interested in Aviation for some time now and currently studying for my ATPLs, which iam doing OK in but could be better,
I am currently not working at the moment and looking for some work in Air traffic control.
Does anyone know if there is anything going within ATC working, like an assistant or similar, where i can get some background knowledge on Air Traffic control, if so who should i applie to

I have searched all the airports in the UK and sent my CV off with a covering letter. I dont seem to be able to find any advertised ATCA jobs anywhere

are you based in the south aswell? or are you up north? i havent send out any letters yet do u reckon i should, have u had any luck from anyone?

What I posted was along the lines of:

Being an ATC Assistant is either a long term career or a stepping stone to becoming an ATCO.
Although quite a few ATC staff are also pilots of various levels, they manage to fit it in because for the most part we have fixed rosters and a reasonable amount of time off and they get the flying work on that basis.

It would be very difficult to be a pilot full time and ATCA/ATCO part time largely because most ATC Providers want to know that forthcoming rosters can be sustained for months in advance and they don't need the tail wagging the dog.

Also worth writing to the PFOM's at any near by RAF Stations as they employ civi AATC's or FOA's as there now called.

I am an ATCA!! Work with HM Royal Navy (u can guess where, there are only 2 places where it could be). I applied through the MoD website, twice in fact. Keep the search going as you will prevail.:ok:

Traditionally becoming an assistant is a good way to get an ATC grounding and indeed is a good job in its own right.
NATS is not the only ATSP but it is the largest and I fear that it might be a bit difficult to get in at the moment. I don't think they are recruiting in that area.
You could consider the RAF which offers fine careers but you may wish to consider whether you want to be part of a military organisation.

What would the day of an ATC assistant look like?
 

Interested any information as to what kind of activities at ATC assistant would get up to if there is such a thing as a typical day?
