Is it possible that the large number of En-route students suggests a higher staff turnover in this area?

Maybe they don't run tower courses as often for this very reason...

newpants 23rd Mar 2018 06:35

I've been pretty chilled out about this the past couple of weeks, but starting to get a bit anxious, especially because they did contact my references 4 weeks ago.

I just want to know if i've been accepted or not, mainly because its hard to get the idea out of my head of making the big move to melbourne, and a whole lot of thought process could all be for naught.

Has anyone been offered positions other than the April 9th enroute course?

le Pingouin 23rd Mar 2018 12:55

mikewil, maybe there are considerably more en-route than tower controllers?

LeonidasM 25th Mar 2018 22:55

Hi all,

Been lurking here for the past week or two but figured I might as well join the chat. I attended the Friday assessment centre in February but I too have not heard anything since. My referees were also contacted the week after the assessment centre.

In the interview I gave a strong preference for Tower however stated I would just as happily take enroute if it was offered. Didn't feel I went my best at the assessment centre but don't think I did horribly. Will find out soon enough I suppose.

Hey guys, young applicant from Brisbane here adding to the discussion. Wasn't successful in the online testing stage but received a call today saying I had progressed and was given numerous dates to choose from to attend the Assessment centre stage in Melbourne. I will be attending on the 18th of May. Does anyone have any insight on what to expect on the Assessment day in Melbourne? Any past experience (from this year) would be greatly appreciated!

Has anyone been panelled for a tower course yet? There could be a second wave of offers once en-route’s sorted?

LeonidasM 27th Mar 2018 02:51

Austinlaing, in terms of the assessment center my best advice would be to get a good nights sleep beforehand. It is a mentally challenging day but honestly was a lot of fun. Trying to prepare would almost be doing yourself a disservice - we really don't know exactly what is being looked for in a candidate so just give everything a fair crack and hopefully you'll be fine.

Maggie Island, it is my understanding that so far only a handful of people have been offered a spot on an upcoming Enroute course. There have been no tower spots offered yet. At the assessment center in February they were definitely recruiting for both roles.

On the day we were told that AirServices was hoping to run two enroute courses and a tower course this year however they stressed that nothing had been locked in so I would not be banking on anything.

YAY!

Finally received an offer today to start in an EnRoute course on the 2nd July :)

Over the moon to finally hear back!

Dip_ATC 28th Mar 2018 09:29

Congrats newpants!

Strongly suggest you get on top of the medical and security checks ASAP (in our case they were chasing us to get them all done within the first week after the offer). Also be aware that there is some pre-course study to complete before the course starts (they recommend setting aside 40 hours for it and we were give the material 2 weeks before our start date).

LeonidasM 28th Mar 2018 10:49

Well I'm really happy to report I too received an offer today - for the tower course starting in July.

Very excited :)

newpants 28th Mar 2018 11:18

Thanks Dip!

yeah im aware what the medicals are like, having held a class 1 for commercial flight training previously. And how annoying casa can be with time frames! Luckily ASA have given me plenty of time for when they want the pre-start stuff completed by.

I plan on quitting my current job to leave me 2 weeks work free, which should give me enough time to do those studies that you mentioned, however havent been provided with them yet.

Good luck!

Dip_ATC 28th Mar 2018 21:18

And congrats to LeonidasM too!

Some good news coming out now at least! Congrats to everyone. I also just received an offer for the July EnRoute course! Plenty of stuff to sort out in the meantime

They don't contact referees unless you pass the assessment day. So that is how you know that you passed on that day.

How is everyone going on the Enroute course that started in April?

Does anyone know if the Tower and Enroute course starting early July are fully booked?

Also is it possible that the successful applicants from this months Assessment Centres would start on a course at some stage in 2018?

Cheers.

TheSpoonPlatoon 1st May 2018 01:51

We are going well; about half way through the first chunk of theory now.

Last we heard, the July courses are not yet filled. Unsure if this round of assessments is for July only, but they have indicated at least one more course for this year after the July start.

Id hazard a guess and say that unless you are in the team of people hiring applicants, then its hard to know if they are fully booked.
But i'd also go out on a limb and say that there is a good chance those being assessed/interviewed this month very much have a chance of starting on the July courses.

Okay thanks.

Glad to hear you're all doing well so far.

The rest of 2018 sounds promising, that's great!
