ATC jobs at LBA

New ATC positions at LBA being advetised shortly, for those interested...

Hootin an a roarin 22nd Nov 2007 06:25

Just out of interest, how much is top of the scale at Leeds?

throw a dyce 22nd Nov 2007 18:00

Hootin,
Getting tired of Band 2 land? I see a certain two of these units in the North are busier than BB now.:hmm: There is a world outside Nats.:ok:

brummbrumm 23rd Nov 2007 06:47

Dyce, whats with the BB bashing?

Looking at the stats yes PH and PD are busier, but you need to include the BE figures with BB traffic as we also handle about 30% of their movements, suddenly PD and PH aren't quite as busy are they??

Throw a Dyce

Just interested mate.

brummbrumm

We can all add extra stats like PN or QL inbounds and the local flying schools.

I'm not going to 'bash' Brum. The difference in the scales isn't worth getting upset about. However the growing divide between us and the Band 4/5 units and subsequent pension is worrying.

If they start messing more and more with Terms and Conditions and pensions I may as well try to live closer to home and earn the same money than mess around in Scotland! I am also not the only one and I hope NATS realise this.

Regards

Brum,
Actually a lot of units have hidden movements that gain little or no revenue. In our case a PD we have a heli training base that operates in the zone which don't reflect in the movements. We also have military, training flights on go-arounds,extensive work outside CAS which is not included either.
Don't remember BB having 4 runways either.:hmm:
I think BB is a grand airport and vastly more pleasant than LL for passengers.
If you look at the DXB threads then they are having to pay big money to attract and retain staff. There is a worldwide shortage of Approach Radar controllers,so we in Band 2 Nats land are interested to see if they recognise this.If not some people might start to broaden their horizons.:)

Ps Not me.I've done that already.:ok:

Dyce

You are so correct. The world is a big place and there is a significant shortage of ATCOs if PB starts to mess with my pension or give poor pay rises then I'm off. The way the union is working with mangement to reduce our terms and conditions and pay is sickening me.:ugh:I am so glad that I have my ATCO licence that makes me so employable anywhere in the world.

I thought this thread was about jobs at Leeds

Dyce, Hootin, check your PM's

The questions one must ask about units outwith your own:
  1. Is it worth putting £5k on the salary for another £50K on the mortgage?
  2. Are you leaving a small pond where you are were a big fish to join an ocean where you will be just another part of the quota
  3. Are you leaving a unit where you know where you are in the pecking order to become the lowest of the low for a long time
  4. are you joining a unit where the watch manager may make completely unjustified allegations against you? (refer to previous posts on this or similar threads).
Personally, unless desperate, I would give it a miss.

Hootin an a roarin 23rd Nov 2007 18:13

Niknak

Thanks for the insight.

1) Living in Scotland's capital you will find my current mortgage and house will buy me similar if not better accomodation in most places, except London, so thats irrelevant.

2) I wouldn't class anything North of the border a big fish (airports), and more importantly we are not seen or treated by this company as such by our salaries. If you are talking about NATS as a whole again we are treated as the minnows within and seem to bear the brunt of cost cutting continuously.

3) We north of the border, again within this company, are treated as the lowest of the low as decided by the people who voted yes with banding (old argument but still valid). As an aside I also see now that the model is deemed unfit within NERL but within NSL we are stuck with it. As an individual I have no idea where I stand in the pecking order. It is a lottery when courses are handed out, and very rare, as again everything comes down to cost. If the unit has enough ojti's, lce's etc no one else gets a look in, irrelevant, if it is good for a person's career development or not. Having mates at area units, they tend to leave the college and within 2 years are all ojti's whether they are needed or not.

4) Who says the allegations could not occur within any unit?

You are also, in my opinion, sounding extremely arrogant and offensive by intimating that bog standard Atco's at LBA are the lowest of the low. I take it you are Band 5 at Swanwick!

My original query was to find out how much top of the ATCO salary was at LBA because again if NATS does not wake up and stop meddling with pensions/TandC's, and try to reduce the banding/pension gulf, then people will start to look around for other opportunities.
It is also well known that unless it is a sound business case within NSL then moves between units are not being encouraged because of costs.

I'm sure Nats is looked on as a wonderful company to work for when you are earning in the 80/90 grand mark or are one of the thousands of pen pushers trying to justify a living at CTC, but other airports are beginning to look attractive.

Rant over

Time for a triple whisky!!!

Gonzo 23rd Nov 2007 18:16

Niknak, what is your thing with being the 'lowest of the low'??? You've said that phrase more than once before, I'm sure.

throw a dyce 23rd Nov 2007 20:48

It is probably going to be history repeating itself. Here in PD there has been countless people leave, for various reasons over the years.During the last resigantion burst, there were about 12 to 15 and the unit came close to it's knees.Nats were still trying to post out retained rights ATCO 2.:ugh:
In my own case I left for 3.5 times the salary in HK.My housing allowance exceeded my Nats take home pay.So I come home after the usual pile of crap in the Tower and someone on the phone offers me that.:hmm::hmm::hmm:Oh I'll be such a small fish. What about my pension.:D:D Couldn't resign quick enough and go.
The weird thing is that Nats wants to go down the same road again.I'm sure if Heathrow lost 30% of it's staff because they were pissed off at terms and conditions then it would be changed very quickly..Band 2 is the lowest paid in Nats.Look at the Banding agreement:D stitch up.
Good luck to people that look to improve their lot.I'm sure that LBA is offering about the same as Atco 3 units. That sort of deal was enough to entice a lot from PD.Geography go figure.

Ps and that was before P.Barron decided to have a look at pensions.

niknak 25th Nov 2007 23:03

Lowest of the low = being a new boy/girl.. getting all the crappy shifts, not having a voice in the unit for ages and genreally being pissed about for a while.
I didn't say or mean that the LBA ATCOs are the lowest of the low, you really should pay attention.

No, I am not NATS but I have experience of a number of units and have been at my current place for over ten years, I'm quite happy where I am.
As for arrogance, check your own postings.

Night night.
