VMC Clearances
 
Hi there

Just like to know if there are still countries where VMC climb and descents are still allowed?What criteria do you use?I seem to have a different interpretation than management in this regard.

The book says:"The clearance shall be for a specified portion of the flight at or below 10 000 ft,during climb or descent"
1. No mentioning of AGL or AMSL - Management decision is AMSL - That leaves us at FAJS with 8000 and 9000ft.So it is useless.
2. My arguement is that from FL190 to Fl160 is a specified portion of the flight ( 3000 ft )below 10 000 ft during climb or descent.So according to me that is legal.From FL330 to FL220 ( 11000 ft) is a portion greater than 10 000 ft,so it's illegal!
The other criteria are 1. Requested by pilot 2.A/c are operating in VMC
3.A/c can maintain VMC during the period in which separation is reduced
4.Used in controlled airspace by day only and 5. Both aircraft must agree to the reduced separation
VMC climb or descents can make life so much easier.Why wait for 10 Nm if a faster a/c has overtaken a slower a/c and the slower a/c behind has the faster infront insight or traffic climbing and descending abeam each other etc etc

Britain does I got one last week.

Tend to only be the civi procedural controllers and mil controllers and only the more experenced ones at that.

Civi radar controllers won't do them due to all the alarms it triggers, I have forgotten and offered I had the traffic in sight and been told that the controller would love to and would have done 15 years ago but not now.

To be honest most of the CAT pilots don't have a clue what they are either.

I believe that VMC clearances are not allowed in Class A airspace in the UK.

That's because it can only be done in the UK when radar is not available. The other conditions are:

Essential traffic info given;
The pilot of the a/c climbing or descending agrees to maintain own seperation;
Daylight hours;
The a/c is in VMC;
Restricted to class D,E,F and G airspace at or below FL100
Not in CAS-T
