- Learn the booklet, you likely wont need all the info but it'll put your mind at ease.
- Practice some online aptitude games, whether it's on the NATs website or just through google. Some say they help, some say they don't, but why chance it when you have the choice! I personally found they at least gave me an small idea of what was to come.
- Take a water bottle and some food. When you're sat at the computer for a few hours you'll get thirsty, plus if you make it through to DART you'll want a bite to eat. There are vending machines with limited choice but I just chucked a sandwich and a few cereal bars in my bag plus an energy drink for a boost.
- Try to relax, take in the instructions on each test and repeat them if you need to, then just try to put your brain into concentration mode and do what should come naturally if you're right for the job!

Best of luck to you!

Jerez course July

Hello, I passed my stage 3 back in January and recently found out I will be on the Jerez course starting in July, assuming I pass my medical later this month. I am wondering if anyone else here is on the same course?

I would say get a good night sleep the night before, give yourself plenty of time to get there. Make sure you know the info booklet as best you can. Also interact with the other candidates, it calms your nerves and also helps you remember you're not in competition with each other.

Height restrictions

Has anyone before been told they are too tall to go to Global, or what height restrictions there are on being an aerodrome/approach controller?

Did you get an option for area/approach/aerodrome? I got the impression it's basically whatever they need at the time, logic suggests there would be more positions for area at any one time but when I asked at CTC they seemed to say it's relatively balanced.

No, you get put on a course based on their needs at the time (or in x months/years ahead based on training timescales) - unless you have a choice of CTC/Jerez or Global. Global will be Aerodrome/Approach, CTC/Jerez could be either but more likely Area based on recent courses and what we've been told on needs.

There's two of us at the moment - do you want to message your number and we can start a WhatsApp group? 😊

Tom, I'm on the same July, Jerez course as yourself! Congrats.

To anyone waiting for a response after passing stage 3, definitely get in touch. I'd waited the 2 weeks they'd told me it'd take, upon ringing them the day after they had courses ready!

Hi all, I've been long-time lurker of this thread but posting now that I can happily say I have passed my Stage 3 and have found out where I'm going.

For fellow lurkers out there wondering about timescales - my Stage 3 was on 5th Feb, I took the call on the 11th Feb with the good news (I was told I should wait up to 15 working days to find out, so I was quite pleased with having to wait just 4), then I took another call on 6th Mar saying I'm off to Global ATS.

I'm on the July course in Gloucester, is anyone else on the same course? Send me a message if so; we can get a group going.

Congrats TiffLangham!

Seems to have taken a bit of time between learning of passing Stage 3 and receiving placement on to your course. I'm still waiting to hear back from my Stage 3 although it has only been a week and it sounds like there may be a backlog of candidates waiting on courses going by you and the other previous posts having passed their interview stage in Jan/Feb etc. now receiving their basic training course assignments.

Medical

Hi, has anyone had their medical recently. Got mine next week and was just wondering what to expect.

TiffLangham 12th Mar 2019 21:41

Thanks StuBob , I hope you hear back soon and best of luck.

Beany1889 re your question about being too tall to go to Global - the only question I was asked was if I was over 6' 2", so I assume that anything above that perhaps qualifies for "too tall".

The test day was great. We started at 10. 13 entered of which 7 failed the FEAST. Apparently its rare that half of the applicants pass but we did it. The tests started out very straightforward and progressed in difficulty, but they really ease you into it and with the right mindset there's no chance you will panic.

Just tried to PM you, but your inbox is full...

Hearing test, sight test, ECG, BP check, urine test, reflexes, height/weight, medical history (yours and family) etc. As this is your initial medical, there may be a few more bits than that to it - it's been a long time since my initial one

Trevor Hannant 13th Mar 2019 19:14

Pretty much what TMT says although there is also cholesterol check in there (pin prick on the finger for a small blood sample - test only takes a minute or so to give results) and a lung capacity test there also.

thanks for the info. How long does it take to find out if you pass or not? Is it usually pretty immediate or do you have to wait for any test results? I feel pretty confident I should be ok, however you never know until you know.

Trevor Hannant 14th Mar 2019 08:01

If there are any issues, you’ll know immediately. If you need anything further (specialist assessments, further tests), they’ll tell you there and then.

If you need these, it won’t necessarily stop you starting - there are a couple on our course that still don’t have it...

I'm absolutely delighted to say that I've not long had a phone call confirming I have passed Stage 3 and have been booked onto Jerez course starting late October subject to medical/security clearance.

To say I was buzzing is an understatement!

Congratulations!

I must say, after seeing the NATS infographic about how, on average, only 25 of 3,300 candidates are successful, I'm finding it incredibly encouraging to see just how many people on here are successful. It's almost as if there's a correlation between posting on here and being successful :-)

Congrats! See, the wait was worth it... :D
