Passed stage 1 much to my amazement. Only completed 41/50 in the diagraming and 30/40 in the cubes.

The best advice IMO is to relax. I booked my test about 4 weeks in advance as i was coming from Ireland.
I didn't read the test material until the week before. Read it a couple maybe 3 times that week. Once the night before and once the morning of the exam.

I was confident with the maths questions. If you have any concept of time and speed i wouldn't even worry about them.

There was a couple of distance questions but fairly logical stuff.

I did the test in the morning of Tuesday the 29th and got my invitation for stage 2 on the 31st
At the moment there are only 2 dates this Friday 8th and next Wednesday the 13th.
Anyone know if they give more notice than that as i flights can be fairly expensive at such short notice.

I know this has probably been asked about 230213403040 times but I've got my stage 1 next week and was wondering a few things, what do i wear? smart casual, smart? And what to expect in general?

Would really appreciate any feedback!

TimeLady 5th Feb 2013 21:35

I got through to Stage 3 also - you aren't by chance going to Swanick this Thursday?

I have no idea what to expect, it's a little disconcerting.

sambatc 6th Feb 2013 13:49

so, I got the call yesterday. Made it past Stage 3 and I've received a conditional offer :ok:

Well worth the wait! 2 1/2 years since I first applied (this was my 2nd attempt) but I don't care anymore! :}

anybody else penciled in for the May course?

Kimmikins 6th Feb 2013 15:14

Congratulations! It's a great feeling isn't it :ok:

May course

Samba,

Well done its a brilliant feeling isn't it. I am possibly on the May course and if not the next one so either way I will be seeing you at the college.

Cheers,

Jof

sambatc 6th Feb 2013 18:44

sure is!

is there a facebook group for the May course yet?

malakajin 6th Feb 2013 19:37

Is it only 1 group per month?

Crazy Voyager 6th Feb 2013 19:42

The course start dates and places on them depend on how many people NATS want. This was also the reason the application process was halted, no business need.

malakajin 6th Feb 2013 19:43

Thanks Crazy! To be more specific I was interested in how many groups were formed since november last year and the present day ! Thanks

MrOneTwo 6th Feb 2013 20:33

Anyone else attending Stage 1 in Bham on 22nd Feb?

sambatc 6th Feb 2013 20:51

malakajin - if you look on NATS' website, they say they usually run 4 courses a year, starting in Jan/Feb, Apr/May, Jul/Aug, and Oct/Nov.

Hi All

Quick question regarding airspace. I've condensed the notes given in the revision file to some bullet points, as I'm sure most do. And I also looked up online the different airspace classes and made some notes on them, too.

I'm just revising them at the minute, and I notice that in the document provided by NATS, it says that Class C extends from FL245 upwards. However, according to Wikipedia, it says that Class C between FL195-660 where FL245 is where the UIR begins.

Anyone else noticed that? If that question pops up on the test, which is put down? :uhoh:

tooomek 6th Feb 2013 23:32

it also states at the beggining that from 15th March '07 class C replaced classes A D F G above FL195 in both FIRs, the bit you looking at is regarding to upper air routes extending from FL245 upwards which is also class C airspace.

P Wilson 7th Feb 2013 03:11

Thanks for clearing that up.

manderson1993 7th Feb 2013 08:14

@P Wilson

I also found different information on the web compared to what was said in the booklet. However NATS told you that you need to study what was in the booklet so that's what I did. They won't ask you questions where the answer is what was on the wikipedia page.

Just keep that in mind :)

P Wilson 7th Feb 2013 13:27

@manderson1993

Indeed that occurred to me, but in my opinion there's only one right answer :P

njp 7th Feb 2013 13:42

Ooh, other Sheffield people for the 21st! Hello! I'm going at 4pm (as I may have to work beforehand - hoping I can swap shifts though as I don't want to be running straight from work to the test!) so I'm not sure I'll see any of you, but hello and good luck nonetheless :)

If anyone could clear up what's good to wear to a stage 1 that'd be great - I'm assuming it doesn't really matter too much though as it's just the tests and not an interview or anything, but it's still good to know what the norm is... I'm planning on going smart-casual, just a dress, tights, cardigan, pumps sort of thing :p

aawallace 7th Feb 2013 17:14

HI everyone,

I am looking to sit my stage two tests next week and i have a couple of cheeky questions.

Do they still Use the SDM test as i have seen conflicting infomation on this thread? Also, what are the NATS tests? I have been able to familliar myself with the feast and dart tests thanks to wickipedia, However, i cant find any info on the NATS tests.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

PhiltheReaper 7th Feb 2013 18:02

The NATS tests are the FEAST and DART tests.

Phil
P.S. For those wondering, I have fallen fowl of the NATS policy and can no longer apply until November 2015.

For those interested, it is because their 12 month waiting policy is "imminently" changing to a 24 month waiting policy. Please contact HR for more details.
