circling approach

what are the conditions for a circling approach ?

joh-k 8th Feb 2007 13:22

- to maintain VMC during circling on min. descent altitude
- no descent bellow the minimum bevor reach the descent-gradient from final-approach (normally 3°) respectively the glide from the PAPI-/VASI-lights

...within the protected area. ;)

i understand that it is where you manouevre outside 30 degs from the main instrument RW once you have the required visual references, to achieve a vis landing on another RW. Visual references are relaxed to include "any aerodrome feature that fixes the ac's position.
