Q for any LHR controllers
 

Just a quick query - heard someone the other day declaring a medical emergency, destination LHR, ATC needed to know age/sex/what was wrong with pax, is this some sort of admin requirement, haven't heard it anywhere else?

Thanks Gonzo, when the aircraft told them medlink was looking after all the medical requirements we were a bit surprised why ATC then needed this info. Cheers

There's something about queue jumping too. It has been done!

Medilink may be looking after the requirements but even so, occasionally we get asked to make sure an ambulance is standing by to greet the aircraft at the gate. In this case we would ask the questions above so, as Gonzo says, it can be passed on to the paramedics. There are also some occasions where we would also ask for the ethnic origin too, as there has been one or two rare occasions where the sick passenger couldn't be treated by certain medic crews, so a suitable one is arranged.

i think its also a good backup. should the info not get to the medics one way ,they will receive it from us. i'd rather have duplicate info than no info at all.

Whilst Medlink may be looking after it from your end, when ATC at LHR let the folksd in the locality know about the problem (such as those fine men and women in the STAR centre:ok: ) they ask for this kind of info from ATC so that they can pass it on.

As ayrprox quite rightly asserts, better to have regretted an action one has taken rather than an action one has not.
