Anyone help from CATC?

Evening all.

Can anyone give some idea of who to contact at CATC for a little chat I need to have. I've just sent back my slip to say "yes please daddy, I'd love to join course 204 on 27th of June" and the letter that came with it explains that leave outside of programmed weeks can only be granted in exceptional circumstances.

Well, you see - I'm getting married on 30th September, this is a Friday. Now my future wife has only just got up from the "sorry love we can't have a honeymoon at the time because of my course (oh aye, she's a lucky lady)" - but I fear the abandonment of the day itself may lead to my  being repositioned somewhat, and I'm keen to avoid this at all costs.

So can anyone help out with who I need to speak to at the college?, and perhaps some reassurance that it'll be ok in a soothing tone would also help. I mean - it's only 1 day I'm after, please God etc etc.

Yours prayingly

Billy

Not from CATC but....

Evening Billy,

I'm not from CATC, so I'm sure someone better qualified will reply.

However, I did get married in the middle of my course.

They all asked why I planned my wedding that way, then of course I explained to them that the wedding had been planned long before the course had.:p

However, with plenty of warning they gave me the Friday afternoon off, I got married on the Saturday back up int'north.

It will depend a little on where in the course your wedding falls, however I'm sure they will try.

BTW, still married and still controlling, and still happy.:D :D :D

Hope you get some info, if not PM me and I'll try and ask someone down there for you.

Cheers,
N

CATC ?? ;) It's been renamed DATS for a while now.

I suspect Graham Marshall is probably the man to talk to as he is a focal point for all things student.

mickrobbo 2nd May 2005 21:01

Indeed, I would think Graham is the man to speak to.

SRG say you cannot miss more than 10% of each course so as long as there are no exams that day etc I think you may be able to do it, as it is an exceptional circumstance, however, they do have the right to turn round and refuse it.

If you start on the June course you can work out where you will be in your college life.

10 wks Intro Course
2 wks leave
2 wks flying training
Discipline split....

If you go on the area course you are likely to be at an Area Control Centre on Ops Familiarisation when your wedding date comes round, which could well favour you. However, if you go aerodrome or approach, then you will be hard fixed to find a day where you are not doing simulator runs etc, which can be hard to catch up on as they are such intense courses.

Hope all goes well.

I have a sneaking suspicion that your course [204] .may finish it's Introductory/Basic course around the 27th of September, with the rest of that week plus the whole of the next as leave! Phone Graham at CATC 01202 472257 to confirm.

Maybe, just maybe, the future Mrs Onions will get her week of unbridled passion in the sun.....

Good luck. Send me some cake

PPRuNe Radar - yes the whole Hurn site is now known as DAT&S but because "The College" aka CATC is so well known as such, the name has been retained to avoid confusion. It also differentiates it from the "boffin" end of the building, previously known as, variously, "The EU" and the "ATMDC".

Confused?? You should be.

Thanks

Thanks for your help everybody - and the PMs - all good stuff. I've been asked to get back in touch tomorrow as there was a meeting about the course today so all those asking about hols for course 204 - I'll pass on what I can when I get it.

Until then I'll be sat here like Sting with everything crossed - which is a good trick if you can do it.

Billy

DwB: Oh aye sir, a week of unbridled passion would be just the ticket, although considering how much my delightful fiance has spent on this affair (does anyone even see the shoes under the dress?) it's more likely to be a caravan in Scarborough. Still, you know - I think the sun came out there ......... once.........before ................ so legend has it.

Cheerio

Sting - one of his favourite erm, pastimes is called waiting for the plumber.

Apparently you stay in all day and nobody comes.

Best of luck with the hols, it was difficult enough planning my wedding once I'd been posted and got a validation, never mind doing a course at CATC as well. (mind you if you let your mother take over like my mother tried to, you should have precious little to do):D

Mick could be right here, however....

There is a new course being devised at the minute that you may well be following, in which case, the time scales may well be a little different.

Check with Uncle Graham, he'll be only too happy to help!
