Silly Question Time
Hi guys,
This is probably one I will wish I never asked,so please excuse my ignorance, but here goes. In a war stricken country, and at an airport under attack, there are two aircraft on the ramp, both on tower frequency, when the tower, including all masts, are taken out. My question is 'Could the aircraft still speak to each other,or would that frequency disappear?'This also applys to an aircraft on approach.Would everything go dead? Yes I know, there should be an 'idiots' forum |
Yup, you've answered your own question about wherre this question should be. Just to avoid being a pain, YES, they will be able to talk to each other.
This is why the radios are called TRANSCEIVERS (transmit and recieve) we are in the realms of VHF radio here, not press the red button on Sky. However if I was on the ramp of an airfield under attack, doing something that requires me talk to the tower (take off landing etc) would be at the back of my mind as I attempted to taxi at Vne for cover. |
Not so dumb: other users (police etc.) sometimes use a duplex system which transmits and receives on different freqs. so if that was the case with R/T the answer would be "Yes, the freq. would be dead"
we all start off with little knowledge and only by asking questions do we learn :) Lon More, here before Ponius was a pilot or Mortus a rigger |
