Begorragh Top Cover.....Airways Senior Management have cocked things up,.....again.
We find ourselves extremely short of staff at the regional towers and all Centre rosters are under staffed. If CAA was to look a bit closer I'm sure that they would find that contrary to Airways assurances, the situation (if we were an airline) would amount to grounding. Not a great state of affairs. Anyway.....hope I haven't put you off....in Dunnunda and Godzone there have been threads explaining the situation, you may have to look back past 30 days.

Cheers

Hi TinPusher,

Had a look found one or two interesting topics nothing specific to the jobs situation .

Can you point me at a website?

Slan,

TC

Hey Tinpusher, Sure you're talking about NZ buddy?
Sounds like the way NATS run their staffing at the moment? Why are us ATCOs worldwide not using the "market situation" to better our propects, like every other industry in this global marketplace!(Had to get that management Yuckspeak in)

And to think the Airways Corp and Lockheed Martin may end up running us! Stetsons and holsters at the ready boys and girls.... Yee hah..

I e-mailed them ref this latest advert. At the moment, they are only interested in ATCO's with NZ or Aus citizenship or right of abode. Exactly how many there are out there who are not already working Downunda or Godzone, I don't know. Anyway, they'll send you an e-form to fill in and promise to keep it on file.
Basically, as far as I can make out, it will entail at least a couple of years at a procedural-only station before the option to moe to a radar unit. Interestingly, though, I don't think the Kiwi's have any regular military controllers - I believe their all civvy in a reservist role. ;)

Funny thing is that there are NZ ATCO's in NZ working for Airways (temporarily) that Airways is refusing to offer fulltime positions 'coz they accepted redundancy offered by the Corp only a few of months ago when Airways identified a staffing surplus!!!
Does that sound like an employer with a competant HR dept? Count yourself lucky that they even manage to hit the "Reply" key to answer any emails!!!

All this talk about jobs, but someone I know has contacted them 3 times now asking for salaries, and they refuse. They say that they will discuss money at the interview, not before! Why would you go all the way to NZ for an interview, and not have any idea what the job pays? They sound like a bunch of joke managers to me.

Airways does have a web site, I don't visit it much and can't recall the url....sorry.
I'm sure VA or someone can help.

Harry

Definitely NZ mate.
Management has successfully bull sh..ed the industry for years. They won a Flight Int award a few years back just before the onset of very unpleasant industrial strife. The company has never recovered, moral is generally low, except for the many (me included) that find some perverse humour in the fact that the wheels are falling off.
The Lockheed Martin deal is accepted by most of the ATC's, the whole deal having been investigated by Govt agencies and cleared. Some new kit is always welcome and frankly whether it be Lockhhed, Airsys or someone else makes little difference as long as the same systems are included (STACA, MSAWS) and it works!
