This is the Airservices Recruitment site, which should have job vacancies listed in the next couple of weeks (although it doesn't today).

In the past they have only had the vacancies listed for the period the applications are advertised. There is a contact name (email link) if you have questions.

Just an update - an recruitment advert was placed in "The Australian" newspaper on 3 August. Airservices is looking to commence a course early next year, but applications will close soon (I've forgotten when!). Don't delay - conditions are pretty good, and our equipment is state of the art.

Applications will open from 31st of August via the website www.selectnet.au.com
They will be open only for a couple of weeks though.

Perhaps only because the proposed certified agreement was given a big fat NO!

I also find it hard to believe that anyone would realistically want to work for the bunch of cowboys that is Airservices. One only has to think of the dispute with their technicians this week, and read the report in yesterday's Australian (page 32), to get some flavour of what you might be getting yourself into.

It's an old and clichéd line but nonetheless true: the best thing about Airservices is leaving their employ.

Don't deter people from applying. It's the only way into a fantastic profession (in Oz). Then once rated and fed up they can leave.

Clearly you are a manager, and need to get out more.

For those of you thinking of applying for Airservices, have a long hard thought.
The conditions are OK but may be eroded during current EBA negotiations ( hopefully not!!). The pay conditions are good for Australia but in comparison to pay rates of other countries it is definitely mediocre. Until Management changes or has a good hard look at itself and not the controllers conditions, things will not improve.
I will give you one guess why Airservices is recruiting. I know of at least 6 controllers departing Aus for destinations of Saudi,Jordan,Eurocontrol etc in the last 6 months. What does that tell you !!!

Out of around 1200 ATC's 6 in 6 months is hardly worth pointing out.......

Turnleft- it is worth pointing out. As oz is the best country in the world, you must be pretty annoyed with ASA to leave. The 6 or so who left is the tip of the iceberg of those applying elsewhere.

If I was a manager (which I am not) I would have said conditions were too good!! Proposed EBA was the case in point - but sanity prevailed.
I just think that overall we aren't doing too badly - and I enjoy my job. I can't compare with overseas posts though.

The main change in the department of many names since I started is that, many moons ago, the main aim was to foster and promote aviation. This aim was filtered down through layer upon layer of incompetent, disinterested public servants (mainly concerned with chasing a pension), then through layer upon layer of incompetent operational managers (slowly climbing the ladder of seniority), then down to the line controller having a lot of fun doing an interesting job, and enduring the crap old equipment and the d*ckh**ds above telling him what to do.

Now the main aim is to return a profit. This aim filters down through layer upon layer of dynamic, business oriented management (mainly concerned with who they will be working for next week), then through layer upon layer of incompetent operational managers (rising rapidly through the ranks by their skill at fellatio) then down to the line controller having a lot of fun doing an interesting job, and enduring the crap new equipment and the d*ckh**ds above telling him/her what to do.

I would seriously encourage any people interested to have a go. It is a great job.

I agree, great job, management no better or worse than anywhere else in the world.

Anyone thinks differently, go somewhere else and have a look.

Work for five or so years and then move somewhere else where you get paid better and appreciated more. :D

Don't forget guys, with the current age profile in many towers and centres there will probably be at least 100 controllers retiring within the next 3 years - with or without VR!
To those people overseas, Oz has to be the best country in the universe (and I wasn't born here}, great people, fantastic weather (usually) and the working conditions - in spite of ASA management's attempts to undermine them - are really quite good. :cool:
