Recruitment - length of process

I have sent of my application form about 3/4 weeks ago and apart from my acknowledgement card, i have heard nothing. Is there anyone else who has been through the process who could give me an idea of the time scales? Does anyone know when the next courses are due to start?

Gonzo 9th Aug 2001 14:05

I went through the process a few years ago and it took 8 months, but some colleagues on my course got through in three or four months. It seems to be hit and miss, although I've heard that they have tried to improve this timescale.

If you're getting concerned, ring up the personnel office in Kingsway (if that's were they still are....)

You're getting your first taster of NATS management's incompetence........sit tight........

.......it only gets worse !

:D :D :D :D :D :D

Hang on in there - it could take time!

A few years back when I applied.........

1. It took 10 months (but like Gonzo says - some on the course do it in 3-4 months)

2. I did phone in sick due to flu for the 2nd testing (and got a right 'earful' from the recruitment desk and a snotty letter (still got it!))

3. During the first test (the 10000 questions in 10 minutes!) the internal alarms/tannoy were being tested. A big help!!

4. On my medical - they sent me a map to get to the old tower at Gatwick! This meant I was then 5 minutes late at the beehive!!

5. THEN they realised they had screwed up our contracts and wanted us to sign new (less appealing ones!)

Bless 'em! Bring on the AG!!!

This is one department that needed a kick up the bum - not sure if they have been sorted out!

To sum: Keep badgering them......you might then get what you want!

It took me a year from applying to starting at CATC.

Throughout that time I had the usual mucking around.

And its always more than the 10 days or 2 weeks waiting for results of selection tests/interviews.

Get on the phone and badger them!!!

You have to nudge these idiots to get any reasonable response.
I was in the same situation as you several years ago, so I phoned them.
To my surprise I was due to start the next week. :D

VectorLine,
On area OJT at the moment having completed the all new ACS1 and will be the first course through the equally all new ACS2 when I get back in October. ACS1 was pretty good for a guinea pig course and I am looking forward to the second half. As for postings, I heard that the current area 2 will be donating quite a few to Manch and Scottish. As for us, the rumour last circulating was all to NERC. Don't see it myself though.!! ;)

MACC 29 all the time!!!! 19th Aug 2001 12:08

Vlad NERC is a distinct possibility , but don't get your hopes up it won't be to start training!! There are quite a FEW students who have finished the course down there "gaining valuable experience on the feed sectors"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

250 kts 19th Aug 2001 18:28

Vlad , is there a major problem if you arrive at NERC and do the ATSA tasks for a while?. This is just what used to happen at LATCC when ASCs existed, and students did the wings for around a year, and the pass rate was a damned sight higher than it is now.
There should be no such thing as wasted time on duty when you're not valid.

Vlad the Impaler 19th Aug 2001 23:55

250kts,
Fair point. Lots of people say the same thing, just seems like a long haul compared to those going to scottish and starting their training within the month or those that did approach and will have their tower validation before I even get posted (not that I particularly fancy a tower job anyway!). At the end of the day I'll be glad to successfully negotiate the college and get a chance at a validation.
Just letting off steam.........
