Manchester ATC Centre relocation

I was interested what the latest was about the proposed relocation of MACC to ScATCC. What is the proposed timescale?, I am sure that the staff at Manchester do not want to go, but what incentives if any are NATS employing to encourage people?. If you do not wish to go will early retirement and/or voluntary redundancy be offered and if that is an option are the terms reasonable?.

"O Canada, our soon to be home and not native land.................."

DC10RealMan 14th Aug 2004 17:02

Jerricho,

That is my point. I am a little bemused that people are moving to Canada to avoid a posting to Scotland.

tired-flyboy 14th Aug 2004 17:10

What about the new guys -

desperate to get to ScOACC but being told that Swanick is the place for us!

Time will tell!

:ok:

bmb7jiw 14th Aug 2004 20:05

Have you heard something about where they are sending us Tired Flyboy?

FarNorth 14th Aug 2004 21:12

I'm in Scotland and I'd rather go to Canada than Manchester :8

Jerricho 14th Aug 2004 23:51

The little rumour about an agreement between NATS and Nav Canada regarding "poaching" staff and the buying of the electronic FPS system and various Oceanic systems seem to be making the rounds more and more on both sides of the pond..........

tired-flyboy 15th Aug 2004 09:29

No just stating a preference!

hehe

The proposed timescale is, at the moment, 2008/2009 - though there are already rumours of some slippage to 2010/2011.

And if people would rather go to Canada than Scotland so be it. Who are we to comment negatively when it all comes down to freedom of choice?

Something perhaps they don't feel NATS are giving them at the moment.

Personally I will be going to Scotland.

Numpo-Nigit 15th Aug 2004 17:50

By the stated 2011 I expect Scottish ACC to be in Shannon.

or a call-centre in Bombay :uhoh:

DC10RealMan 15th Aug 2004 18:47

We at Swanwick are familiar with NATS and their project planning, please remember that no NATS project is ever delayed, it is the "window of opportunity" that moves. The second part of my original question still stands ie: If you do not wish or are unable to move to Canada or Scotland what are your alternatives?, and has NATS even addressed the issue?.

Minesapint 16th Aug 2004 19:36

There is plenty of room in the carpark now that the bean counters have been sent to the call centre down the road. Even more room when Swangatte has gone. I was born in the north west but I don't want to live there. However, I would rather live in sub saharan Africa than Scotland. No offence - just preference. I would go for 2010 - 2012 ScACC and 2018 Swanwick systems replacement. If they do Swanwick after making such a cock up of SACTA.:suspect:

dusto 16th Aug 2004 20:30

Anyone hear about the flipside? Me coming from Canada to Scotland? I would gladly make the little switcheroo with someone for a few years.

10W 16th Aug 2004 22:09

If ATC were given a free hand and the builders could get the structure and power, etc, up without any problems, then we could open in 2006 probably with the SACTA system that exists today. It would still be a massive leap forward for UK ATC.

However that's putting aside all the beauracracy and regulation hoops we have to jump through. Plus the 'not invented here' people who will try to modify and tweak the system unecessarily to get us something that resembles Swanwick. And the engineers who seem to grow like topsy on such projects and engineer in all sorts of whistles and bells which we didn't ask for or need.

SACTA works, it does what it says on the tin, and is continually being developed (in conjunction with the UK and Germany now) to give future tools and functions. Don't do the usual NATS trick of taking it and re-inventing everything to end up with a basatardised system which is late, underperforms and costs a shed load of money to give us stuff we don't need.

If they do Swanwick after making such a cock up of SACTA
A prediction ?? Or do you know something about the current procurment which we don't know about ?? ;)

<<desperate to get to ScOACC >>

God, they must be really desperate - all those Scotch Pies!!

bagpuss lives 17th Aug 2004 18:35

We hear and see nothing but good things about SATCA (apart from the odd, understandable adaptation quirk, after all the Spanish airspace seems a little "simpler" overall) so if anyone knows any differently I'm sure most of us NATS types would love to hear it.

tired-flyboy 18th Aug 2004 19:00

HD

not desperate - just used to work there in a blue suit!

Rather go to somewhere i knew (in a past life) after training then go to somewhere where its all new!

something about old dogs and tricks!

Findo 20th Aug 2004 11:24

dusto I'm sure we don't need to find a partner to switch. Just call the NATS recruitment department and ask for the details. We have a few hundred vacancies. :ok:

MACC relocation

Findo,

" I'm sure we don't need to find a partner to switch. Just call the NATS recruitment department and ask for the details. We have a few hundred vacancies."

"We have a few hundred vacancies."

Are these NEW vacancies? If so, how come???
