Questions For Nats Interview
 

I have my NATS second interview tomorrow. Based on what I should know according to the links on the NATS INTERVIEW thread, I have some specific questions if anyone has a spare minute.

1. What's different about the A320? - someth
ing about the way it's flown apparently.

2. Any tips on aircraft recognition as this area is probably my weakness - e.g. general rules like airbuses have this but boeings have this.

3. If a question about an aircraft flying at a certain speed in knots asks how many miles it will travel in a set amount of time, will it mean how far in nautical miles which is straight forward or would they specify this so if they don't and just say miles, you should convert it.

Good luck tomorrow, my interview is the day after.

With reference to your questions, I think (and I may be wrong) that the airbuses use the 'joystick' to fly with.

small 'up and down winglets' on the airbus A320's. If you don't know them all exactly I don't think you would fail on this alone.

I'm pretty sure that when miles are mentioned they mean nautical miles, you won't have anything so nasty as converting to statute miles. It says in one of my ATC books that 'nautical miles are spoken as miles'.

Yes the airbus's do have winglets! It will be no problem to just assume 'normal' miles for sp/dist/time calcs. Just remember though that whatever you say they might ask you more about it! He asked me if I'd ever flown before so I mentioned that I had flown in a Cessna, which lead to the following questions:-

What type of Cessna was it?
What was its cruising speed?
What FL were you at approximately?
How many miles did you fly?
What is a knot?

etc......

Which I didnt expect just for saying Id been in a Cessna!!!! So becareful what you say. If youre quick thinking you can turn it around to suit yourself. For example, the guy asked me about what modules would you do at the training college - so I pomptly reeled a few off. He said "which one is the one you wouldn't particularly like or enjoy?" So I said 'navigational aids' (hoping he would ask me on that!!) and sure enough he did!!!
