You only get this kind of quality entertainment from the US. Talking of which, [genuine trans-atlantic ignorance], do the US TRACON ATCOs really say "welcome to my airspace?"

One or two things spring to mind after seeing it.

(1) Would a 747 really throw you if you stood that close to the threshold?

(2) Would Heathrow ever devote 3 minutes for the controller to sing a song to his ex-wife over the R/T. (b) would she be licenced to use the RT? teeheehee

Picture the scene;

"All aircraft stop transmitting; Attempting to save my marriage. *controller bursts into a hit from ol' blue eyes as his colleagues in LATCC look on in horror." hahahahaha

(3) When sitting on "the scopes" do you ever look over your shoulder to find that the entire operations room have left their screens to come and stand behind you and take bets on your performance... *sigh*.

(4) "Hi, Im new, this is my first day here. I dont appear to have validated for this airspace, but I'll give it a shot."
"oh hi!, this is a radar screen - enjoy!"
"Great, I've got the picture. See ya!"
"bye!" Unit validated controller leaves room.

HHAHAHAHAHA

Seperately, as I was sitting watching mesmerised, I came up with a great game.

(*) Drink 1/2 pint for each incident that would involve a MOR.

(*) Down 1 shot for each ATC Stereotype.

(*) Dont play this game on a break at work.

1) Is this before or after your eardrums explode?

2) Of course. I know one or two ATCOs who perform part time in various piano bars around the place.

3) Don't have to look over your shoulder. Normally the laughter gives it away.

4) Nothing like learning the hard way now, is there!

I was going to put a comment about recruiting ATCOs that look like Angelina Jolie, but I'm already in trouble over on Jet Blast, so I'll just shut my mouth!

Perhaps the most worrying scene...

Pilot complains to controller that his "TCAS is going crazy" because he's close to another aircraft - controller tells him not to worry and gives him instructions to avoid the other aircraft.:eek:

And this is the sad truth if you ignore TCAS

It's a dreadful film but entertaining enough if taken with a pinch of salt or three.

To be fair the producers were always going to be hard pushed (excuse the pun ;) ) to make a Hollywood blockbuster out of air traffic.

And it's certainly not as bad as "Ground Control" or whatever it was called, starring a decidedly un-CTU-esque Kiefer Sutherland :E

Folks;

The film was a COMEDY!!! Now, that said <G>, the vector doll is indeed real and something that you can find at the New York TRACON or Common I as it is known.

As to singing, well, I have seen Willie Nelson seranaded on the midnight shift as he flew through <G>...

I'm afraid the title of the film is part of the overall joke! It's has nothing to do with GMC. Puzzlingly, it's called 'Jet' in the UK and 'Ground Control' in the USA. Both of which fail to describe the content.

It's a terrible film and I urge anyone to steer well clear. See here :yuk:
