If anyone hasn't seen it yet or wants a laugh...
Anyone seen Angelina Jolie learning to fly at Denham yet? Or was that just a tabloid story. |
Dan Dare
Brilliant, have seen it several times and it never fails to amuse. Thanks for letting us know it is on - highly recommended Hi5 :) :) |

|
I cant wait!
I've heard wonderful things about this film. Right up there with "the day that britain stopped" from what Im told. Thanks for letting us know about this little Tv-gem. Ta! :ok: Bri. |
Beautiful news, thanks for blessing us with it :)
|
I hear they wanted Point 7 to star in it, but his ego was too big! :p
That, and Angelina Jolie wouldn't go near him! |
*Bri Sighs...*
You only get this kind of quality entertainment from the US. Talking of which, [genuine trans-atlantic ignorance], do the US TRACON ATCOs really say "welcome to my airspace?" ;) One or two things spring to mind after seeing it. (1) Would a 747 really throw you if you stood that close to the threshold? (2) Would Heathrow ever devote 3 minutes for the controller to sing a song to his ex-wife over the R/T. (b) would she be licenced to use the RT? teeheehee Picture the scene; "All aircraft stop transmitting; Attempting to save my marriage. *controller bursts into a hit from ol' blue eyes as his colleagues in LATCC look on in horror." hahahahaha (3) When sitting on "the scopes" do you ever look over your shoulder to find that the entire operations room have left their screens to come and stand behind you and take bets on your performance... *sigh*. (4) "Hi, Im new, this is my first day here. I dont appear to have validated for this airspace, but I'll give it a shot." "oh hi!, this is a radar screen - enjoy!" "Great, I've got the picture. See ya!" "bye!" Unit validated controller leaves room. HHAHAHAHAHA Seperately, as I was sitting watching mesmerised, I came up with a great game. (*) Drink 1/2 pint for each incident that would involve a MOR. (*) Down 1 shot for each ATC Stereotype. (*) Dont play this game on a break at work. Last thing, then Im off to bed; Any characters, events or scenarios in this film are entirely co-incidental... NO!!!! Surely not.... lol. Night peeps. |
1) Is this before or after your eardrums explode?
2) Of course. I know one or two ATCOs who perform part time in various piano bars around the place. 3) Don't have to look over your shoulder. Normally the laughter gives it away. 4) Nothing like learning the hard way now, is there! I was going to put a comment about recruiting ATCOs that look like Angelina Jolie, but I'm already in trouble over on Jet Blast, so I'll just shut my mouth! |

What a load of rubbish!

Crash_1983
this should be posted everywhere, this film is GREAT im cabin crew, and it never fails to make me laugh, love the film, Still got the bruises from the last 747 that blew me over :ok: :} |
I have seen worse films.
No, really Love Actually and Shallow Hal are, incredibly, even worse:hmm: |
Perhaps the most worrying scene...
Pilot complains to controller that his "TCAS is going crazy" because he's close to another aircraft - controller tells him not to worry and gives him instructions to avoid the other aircraft. |
|
It's a dreadful film but entertaining enough if taken with a pinch of salt or three.
To be fair the producers were always going to be hard pushed (excuse the pun ;) ) to make a Hollywood blockbuster out of air traffic. And it's certainly not as bad as "Ground Control" or whatever it was called, starring a decidedly un-CTU-esque Kiefer Sutherland :E |
Folks;
The film was a COMEDY!!! Now, that said <G>, the vector doll is indeed real and something that you can find at the New York TRACON or Common I as it is known. As to singing, well, I have seen Willie Nelson seranaded on the midnight shift as he flew through <G>... later Scott |
"ground control"????
"ground control"???? Does such a master peice actually exist??? OH PLEASE!!! BBC, PLEASE SHOW IT THIS ONE TOO... [no offence to any GMC colleagues] BUT, This one sounds about as exciting as a bag of half-cooked chips on a Tuesday evening... How on this earth can you make a [presumably] 2+ hour film about GMC? LOL. :p you guys make me laugh...thanks. Bri. |
How on this earth can you make a [presumably] 2+ hour film about GMC? It's a terrible film and I urge anyone to steer well clear. See here :yuk: For anyone who has seen it. I found this review on IMDB which summed it up nicely for me. :} Folks believe me, this movie has about as much to do with real air traffic controllers as Barney has to do with real dinosaurs. I mean really, if there was a total power failure in the control room you wouldn't see controllers just sitting around with their feet up waiting for Fonzie to come to the rescue! Obviously there was no ATC technical advisor on this film. And what's up with all the 'cute' phraseology between pilots and controllers? And it will be a very cold day in hell when an air traffic controller tells an air carrier captain how to fly his aircraft in an emergency. Absolutely incredible! No one likes to see his profession shown in such a crummy light. And, by the way, I'm a non-retired, non-simulated, real life professional air traffic control specialist. |
