New Airways?

Hello. Ive been hearing about these new airways, when are they officially in use? Because I heard a clearance given at Bristol "Via Upper november 862 to join at EXMOR..." which is usually A25, does this mean that the airways are now officially changed?
Thanks.
Dan.

The airways do not change designators until 27th November 2003.

Thought it was a date around that time. Yeah that clearance must have been a one off cos all the rest were via A25 and G1 etc. Is there a NOTAM on the ais site or anything? If so how do I access it.
Thanks.

Take a peek at http://www.ais.org.uk

You'll need to register, it's free of course. Then wander over to the AIC section and have a look at AIC Y91/2003 (Yellow). You'll need the free adobe acrobat reader too which is available from http://www.adobe.com

That gives you a nice summary of the changes.

For an unoffical view of the 27 November changes, go to my site and when you get there go for Recent Changes and then 27 November.

From there, you can see all the renaming. You can even look at the Overview Maps to see what's going on - the maps are about 200k a shot though, so not especially fast (I'm working on that).

Have fun,

Nick Locke

Lest we not forget - UN862 is, of course, an upper air route and thusly only exists in truest from above FL245.

Maybe that had something to do with the odd clearance you heard?

ATCO1987 18th Oct 2003 06:34

Well the levels to join controlled airspace for EXMOR and BCN from GD and FF are FL150, and even though it was via UN862 it was still climbing to FL150.

The operator/pilot had probably looked at his charts and noted that the closest reporting point to Bristol was TUTON and then he could join UN862 to BHD where it the runs to DIN as does A25, they probably didn't realise that it was only an UAR.
The controllers at Bristol would (guessing here!) have the filed plan in front of them showing UN862 - However the London chaps and chapesses would be looking at an amended flight plan that would have been changed by those clever FPRS people to an EXMOR join hence the clearance given! Leaving the pilot totally confused I'm sure:O

Well if it said TUTON they would probably say EXMOR anyway, i visited the tower last week and ther was a dep strip showing BASET UG1 KENET, but it wasnt edited or nothing, it was immediately given as a WOTAN clearance because the controllers know that easterly deps on G1 are WOTAN. So it was probably a similar situation.
