Very true, looks like the Farnborough vacancy notice has gone.

Western Radar is at the NATS Whiteley site, a few miles from Swanwick.

Thanks; didn't realise there was a separate radar unit near Swanwick! I've clearly been out of the UK for too long!

“separate until” may be technically correct but “broom cupboard” is closer to reality!

Having also been out of the UK for some time, could someone enlighten me as to what Western Radar does exactly?

If it's in the room at Whiteley where I did sim training for Farnborough North, it can hardly be called a broom cupboard.

Provides MARS to traffic in the Western part of the London FIR outside controlled airpspace.
Not to be confused with the 'Western Radar' which used to be at Aberporth in the late '60s providing services in Cardigan Bay and which service is nowadays not provided by NATS.

ATSOCAS between FL100-FL195 over Wales, and the SW quadrant of England (west of a curve drawn through Bournemouth, Birmingham and Liverpool, primarily to aircraft joining/leaving CAS.

UK AIP ENR page 6-1-6-7 refers

Sounds like a nice relaxing way of spending one's retirement, especially mixing it with traffic out of Valley over mid Wales. On my Hawk ride we operated near Aberdovey at about FL160 +/- 5,000ft.

On my three or four visits to Whiteley, I found the worst bit was finding a parking space.(plus they wouldn't accept Luncheon Vouchers in the Whiteley Tesco)

Oxford are after an ADI/APP/APS rated controller (an increasingly rare beast). Does anyone know what the salary is? The ad doesn’t say.

The salary is as low as the morale.
