Lon the centre isn't owned by the state but by a private company.

So you can't just take a private asset.

Which is where a lot of the SNP stuff falls right on its backside with its presumptions.

Isn't the 'golden share' (49%) still owned by HM Government though?

When does a shareholder ever have the right to removed an item of capital from the company asset portfolio just because they want it?

If it doesn't happen before 2020 then there's a fair chance the UK would be looking o build a new Centre. How about somewhere central; near Preston perhaps?

Just be sure the name can't be confused, like West Drayton and West Raynham.

There's plenty of space in Manchester Airport's new "Airport City" for a new centre

There's nothing wrong with and plenty of space at Swanwick. And as we all know management are planning on employing less controllers in the not too distant future.

There's nothing wrong with and plenty of space at Prestwick, too.

Well there's very little right with those two sentences, is there?

I have a NATS document right here on my bookshelf which states that the original plan was to move Manchester Sub-Centre to Swanwick. The reason it never moved there was, (according to management and the LTUS), a lack of space arising from the re-location of TC.
Where has all the space at Swanwick suddenly come from?

The stated plan was for AC, TC, EGCC and London Military all to re-locate to Swanwick.

The Swanwick ops room was designed to allow a very heavy and large display to be fitted and removed from the sector suite from the rear so as not to affect adjacent positions. The display is now a fraction of the weight and size and you no longer need all that space for the handling equipment. It would now be possible to fit the same number of sectors in roughly half the space especially if you straighten out the "bananas". The other limitation at the time would have been power and heat limits and space in the equipment rooms but again modern equipment is far more efficient and you can now fit more in less space.

Think FAB - somewhere central.....like Maastricht, maybe
Too polite to open that can of worms. The site's just about full now. Lots more offices built. They even knocked the Casino down to give more parking spaces

I think it's safe to say air traffic control rooms are going to get smaller in the future.

Not if they pursue the bonkers idea to go to electronic strips in Terminal Control at Swanwick.Twice the number of controllers required, impossible for one Atco to do the r/t and go tappity tap into the iron brain.
