Skyguide assessment 1
Hello,
I have an assessment at Skyguide (in Zurich) in the next few weeks...I've already done the online sample tests (my biggest weakness is in the Auditory recognition). What else should I expect?
So far the people in charge of hiring have been very helpful and polite...

Hello guys.
I went through the EA1 in Zurich and EA2 in Geneve.
You'll be welcomed by the head of recruitment i guess, she's really nice, and will explain really well what you will do during that day.
You go to your class and you'll get your name written on a computer that will be yours for the day.
For every exercise described bellow, you will have an example and can try it before the test begins.
The first examination last for a full day, in the morning you will have the 3 tests you've been training on on their website. Train as much as you can as it's harder and longer that day, but don't worry, it's not that hard.
The orientation test is the same but last longer, and might be a bit faster i guess.
The concentration test with maths got so many symbols, about 5 times more than on their website, and they change quite often, so make sure you look back to the symbols.
The audio part is harder because instead of 3 times 2 letters or 2 times 3 letters, you will have 3 times 3 letters per exercise at the end.
Also you may hear the sound of your neighbour's headphones.
Then you'll have a lunch break, it's quite good, and you'll eat with your fellows and share your feelings, don't eat too much, you'll need to stay awake for the test that comes after.
Back to class...
On your screen, you will have 4 red dots, they are lamps. they will lit 2 by 2, so you'll have 6 combination. Every second, you get another combination and whenever you see two time the same combination, you need to click on the "lamp" button on the screen.
In the same time you'll hear sound in your headphones, they are letters, whenever you get 3 times the same sound (for example t, v, g, c, d...) you got to click on the "sound" button. again, you get a sound every second.
This test last for... one hour, it's quite intense, but goes super fast cause you're really focusing.
What can be disturbing is the click of your fellows, you could get confuse and think you missed something... stay concentrated.
After this test you will have a landing simulator.
you will have 3 landing strips on a web (like airways) and you'll need to make the planes, arriving from differents places, land without crossing, at the right level, and using the shortest way. it's quite hard to explain, but she will explain very well.
Make sur you select the good plane before giving the next position, plane by plane.
After this test you will have an english test, which is easy for you guys as you're natives. But you have some tricky questions sometimes, you will have to calculate, or analyse the question in order to answer. but easy for you.
Then the last test of the day is a personnality test, with 146 questions if I'm right. You have to choose between 4 answers, totally agree, agree, disagree, totally disagree.
Make sure you answer sincerely, because if you go further in the selections, they will use those answer in the final interview with the psychologist.
They will greet you and will tell you when you'll get an answer, usually it's super fast, the day after or sometimes later, but usually it's fast.

Hi everyone,
I'm a ATCO student at skyguide at the moment and I can confirm what jegoffinet, don't be too much scared about those test, they are made for people who doesn't have any previous experience, be relaxed and they can help you a lot if you ask them questions, don't be shy!!
I can confirm also that the training is perfect and everyone is very gentle, but of course a lot of commitment is need from your side.

Passing the tests is one thing, passing the training is another. World wide only about 50% of all those who pass selection become controllers and Switzerland is no exception. At the end of the day you also need, really need to like aircraft and have been bitten by the aviation bug. ATC like piloting is a great job and one for life. But you need to like the job, not just the conditions some employers offer. If you are an EU citizen then try NATS as well, the work will be more varied than in Switzerland. Hope you're successful. I.
